So went into the last OT thread to see when I had my first appointment for my shoulder. It was June 15. Well, after the MRI, two shots in my arm that turned out to not work, and a few appointments, the doctor thinks he knows what is all wrong with the shoulder, but he wants to get a second opinion before going through with the surgery. So, they are going to schedule an appointment with a doctor from IC (this guy does surgery for Iowa football players) who specializes in shoulder apparently. Needless to say, three and a half months later, I can say I am almost to the point where I know how they are going to treat my shoulder.

Captain good luck with your shoulder and all, and I'm a let you finish, but I was kind of hoping we'd just keep this entire thread about my amateur hockey exploits, it'll be the best thread of all time.

I have tears on both the front and back of my labrum, damage around my AC joint, and a lot of torn cartilage around my shoulder socket... at least that's what I think is all wrong, from what I understand.

Hey Captain, if it makes you feel any better last Sunday I did an Ironman event. After the race was over, and on our way home, I eventually had a seizure. The front of my brain was bleeding, not much, but still was. They had to put me into a coma from Sunday-Wednesday just to let me entire body calm down and try to get back to normal. Finally home now, and no on any meds or anything for the time being.... But needless to say, that was probably the scariest thing I've ever gone through, even though I have zero recollection of any of it.

Oh, and my shoulders are pretty ****ed up too. Don't think I'll need surgery, but it will be a few weeks before they don't hurt for sure.

Did you get in a car wreck? That's major damage, a not fun surgery and a pretty big recovery. Good luck

That's crazy, Ray. Hope you're doing better and that the doctors got to the bottom of it.

Based on your posts, I always suspected you'd have liver problems, not seizures :)

Doing much better today, but my memory is still off as well as my depth perception. I'm taking all of next week off work to recover more, and flying up to Chicago either Wednesday or Thursday.

But it was pretty cut and dry as to why. It was 97+ degrees on race day, 85%+ humidity... and the race took me almost 15 hours. Simply didn't take in enough sodium, and my enzyme levels crashed hardcore as well and that was what caused it all. No reason to think it will happen again.

Sucks to hear man, definitely surgery?

Definitely surgery. But they are still trying to figure out the best way to surgically repair it, since it's not just one thing that they can focus in on. That's why I'm being sent to a shoulder specialist, and then I'm hoping to have the surgery in November so I can be recovered by May.

Jesus Christ man, that's terrible. I am really glad to hear you are okay now and I hope there are no serious complications in the future from that. Best wishes.

Thanks. Actually, all these things are injuries that accumulated over time. I just kind of ignored them and then my shoulder pain kept getting worse and worse to the point where I finally had to get it checked out. It's a combination of a shoulder injury I had snowboarding, football over the years, and weightlifting, because we do a lot of stuff that is really terrible for your shoulders unless your form is like absolutely perfect. So this is something I would have likely had to deal with eventually, and I'm glad I'm going to get it taken care of now.

I really am not looking forward to the recovery, though. My hope is to have surgery done soon so I can be 100% healed by summer and can play softball and other sport things I enjoy doing.

Maybe NFS will know this, but if our landlord isn't repairing the toilet and dishwasher in our Chicago apartment can we in turn refuse to pay rent?

Our dishwasher backs up with dirty brown water and the toilet leaks from the bottom. We told maintenance about this at the beginning of the month and still no repairs or acknowledgment that we've even contacted them.
