Top line didn't show up last night. I thought the 2nd and 3rd line were very good. I wonder if we run 11-7 in game 2 since Vinny did kind of look gassed last game
Maybe, but again, which of our forwards is Broberg even better than? It would be weakening our team overall.

I think he'll be a lot better. Watch his interview today, the look on his face personifies "and I took that personally."

You can just see that fire and intensity. It bodes well I think.

I appreciate you posting these. Reminds me to watch " The Last Dance" again. Jordan was on another level with the fire and intensity. A guy worth millions at the time, made a bet with a teammate for a dollar about something so inconsequential. He won the bet and told the player to go get him his dollar. Ultra-competitive.

I think Woodcroft has really prepared his players really well mentally to believe in the system and move on to the next. Let's see if that's enough.

I don’t see any fire or intensity in McDavid there. Just dissapointment.

The Oilers are 4-2 in best of 7 playoff series after losing game 1 since 2006.

Not making a point, but it’s weird man.
I felt like the press was going to.go to their heads for game 1, but didn't.see that in their early game really. Hopefully.it's a kick in the ass

Nah. He's got that glare like he's a second away from snapping at Spector.

It's Kassian crazy eyes except his outlet isn't Tkachuk it's dominating the game, and his fuel isn't perceived lack of respect for safety of his teammates but lack of respect in terms of his abilities and the fact that he's the best. McDavid is wired very much like Jordan. Both absurdly competitive but relatively quiet and unassuming...

But you watch that video I posted, did McDavid not go out there and score 64 to slight Matthews after he won the Hart by scoring 60?

Midway through the video Jordan talks about having a guard make him look silly in a playoff game. "This is a guy I'm supposed to dominate. And I didn't. But after that point I dominated him." That's McDavid and Danault. Difference is you hear Jordan taking retrospectively and with 40 years of wisdom, and right now McDavid is in it.

Desharnais does not have what it takes to be playing regular minutes in the NHL. He's a big body but he isn't even overly physical out there. Broberg would achieve something similar with infinitely better skating and puck movement.

Bouchard was a revelation last night. Forget the penalties he was dominant otherwise. Could hope for Broberg to see a similar change in demeanour if given minutes in the NHL playoffs.

i don't doubt the fire is there. Its McDavid. Its redhot intense. Sometimes the fire don't burn ideally. I've seen McD get frustrated before. Usually its good results, but sometimes backfire. In playoffs its a whole other ball game. Opponents stiffer.

Generally speaking I feel that Drai has been the better playoff persona. Something in him is more congruent to the task. Does McD get TOO fired up? In first period he looked like a ball being shot out of a pinball throttle. Drew a couple penalties and then had no real effect. looked like McD trying to break plays on his own. Its easier doing that in regular season.
I think you may have touched on something here. It certainly appeared like he wasnt on his game.
I thought he looked a little tight and your explanation about him possibly being too fired up could be the reason.

I thought that Desharnais looked fine for being in his first ever NHL playoff game. His game isnt really being overly physical...he just makes it tough to get through him. He is a big body with a big reach.

Agree 100% on Bouchard. He just seems to have so much confidence since Ekholm got here.

Kinda nitpicking here, but Bouchard only had 2 shots on goal? I know he hit the post but with the amount of shot attempts he does he needs to get those through

Ducks. 16-17
Thanks for digging that up. They lost that series.
Crazy to think that they have won a total of one Game 1 in the McDavid era.

The only series they won game 1 (Ducks 16-17) they also lost. So who knows
Exactly.
Not really a predictor of anything.

Even though they are down a game I am still quite sure that they are going to win this series.
I would even suggest that this adversity will actually be helpful.

If Broberg was better than Desharnais he would be playing over him.

Ya Bouchard was playing at an elite level all night until the terrible penalty.

When he wasn't playing well who would have thought more minutes and responsibility was the cure? lol

There has been several decisions regarding Bouchard that we all shook our heads at but in hindsight Holland deserves some credit for the way Bouchard has developed imo.

Maybe, but again, which of our forwards is Broberg even better than? It would be weakening our team overall.

Key difference is though whom they're replacing and replaced by.

Swapping out Kostin or Foegele means double shifting guys from the top 6, and actually making the 4th line occasionally dangerous. Meanwhile Broberg cuts back Vinny's ice time and let's him focus on purely being a defensive specialist. Plus he adds a good skater to a defence facing a heavy forecheck.

I also really like letting McDavid or others skate with the 4th line. It disrupts teams trying to hard line match him, and the change up in linemates means his line is attacking differently, generally causing more chaos.
