Some people have already mentioned it, but things are coming out in Kane's bankruptcy case that are casting doubt on his ability to legally play hockey in the future.

People are overlooking that Kane is a Canadian citizen. He is subject to US immigration law.

Any felony conviction, plea, or admission to fraud felonies would get him deported. There are enough accusations of fraud from his creditors that the court on its own can make a criminal referral if the evidence is there. Any of the creditors can go to law enforcement as well.

I believe none have done so at the current time because that certainly means they will not be paid. His creditors not going to law enforcement may change. The bankruptcy case by all accounts is extremely acrimonious. (last I heard, his creditors are appealing the lower court decision to keep the case a ch 7) If the creditors lose, they may very well decide to go to local law enforcement and/or the FBI.

The fraud accusations range from loan fraud to hiding assets (bankruptcy fraud). Additionally, news reports are he has at least one unpaid casino marker issue to an unnamed casino. If to a NV casino that poses a problem because under NV state law, unpaid markers are considered felony check fraud if over $1200. Each marker would be a separate potential felony charge. And a conviction there would also be a deportation level offense.

Kane having money from his future contract for people to garnish is not a sure thing. And that may be what is motivating Anna Kane to speak out. There is no past money, no current money since she is reportedly abandoned, and there may very well be no future contract money if his creditors win or if Kane gets criminally charged from all the fraud accusations.

If so, what did she have to lose?

Never cheated on his wife, he says. Do you even have 1/1,000,000th of the options he had? No.

How can you basically have no options and compare yourself, to a young, famous enough, once multimillionaire. Only God knows how many times you may have cheated on your wife if your were in his position.

Everything his wife claims are allegations until proven. Some people here need to get off their high horse.
Haha, yea. I remember when average joe's who would struggle to get a date were comparing themselves to Tiger Woods. Try having a bevy of Scandinavian dimepieces all throwing themselves at you. Then we'll see how faithful you really are.

Majority of pro athletes (major league), NHLers included, cheat on their spouse.

It's part of the life style, I remember reading the St. Louis Blues had an equipment manager who was in charge of a jar they put all their wedding rings into during road trips lol.

Kane just seems like he has a bad gambling problem on top of that.
And many wives are aware their husbands aren't faithful. They see it as a fair trade-off for a pampered lifestyle with a millionaire athlete. Ask these women if they'd trade an unfaithful, multi-millionaire athlete for a faithful, low status scrub. If they're being forthright we know what the answer is...

Why is that weird?

Oh probably cause there’s a list a mile long of allegations against Evander Kane dating back 10 years and people bitterly defended him yet all she’s done is speak out and people are up in arms over it. I get if her allegations are proven false then feel free to take your shots but even if Kane is innocent of the allegations he’s still a gambling addict with serious character issues that’s well documented. What specifically do people have on her though?

There is a certain type of human being that will gladly accept anything in order to live a lifestyle they desire.
The spouses of professional athletes fit this mold in most cases. You are rarely Trouba type spouses; you're mostly getting 'I dabbled in modelling and I like designer everything,' type spouses.

I won't say which is right, and which is wrong.
These people attract to themselves like moths and light; hence why I'd be very surprised if any dude who posts on this forum has a spouse like that.

I for one would blackball him as the guy should've already been in programs for help, but if the league hasn't made him go into these programs then they've kinda screwed themselves.

They can also play the ignorance card. At the end of the day, he is a grown adult.

The NHL will only intervene am sure, if the behavior breeches its protocols.

Beyond that, he is well aware of all the tools at their disposal to help him.

If he chose not to use them, and not reach out he has a hard time winning a lawsuit.

It would be like burning oneself on a McDonald's coffee cup.

It says "caution hot" right where you open it. Sure you can sue. That possibility is always there, no doubt about it. Doesn't mean it won't be a waste of both time and resources, further damaging an already tarnished name.

Just as a response to the example used, someone did successfully sue McDonald's even with it saying caution hot and won if I'm not mistaken. Just because a warning is out there doesn't mean there can't still be wrongdoing that you should be compensated for.

Their context justified it.

If someone serving you spills a drink on you, and the drink is so hot, it causes skin to peel, you definitely have a case.

I am saying if I took a cup home, and misused it, and got 3rd degree burns all over my face. Good luck to me winning that one.

Sure. Someone sued Nutella and won. But this was due to misadvertising.

Now, if they ate it 3 times a day and got diabetes, this is a tougher win.

Point am making is if they made the help available, all players are aware of it, you have a hard time winning that lawsuit.

To me it's the "I missed my flight because I showed up late so not only am owed a refund, but also compensatory damages" defense.

Well the reason why I was pointing that out is that it's possible for Kane's context to justify it. Depends on the particulars involved but it's possible. I tend to think the end result of this will still be a contract termination one way or the other because from the looks of it, it seems to me like it's the best solution for everyone involved but we'll see.

"Tanked games for gambling profit". Lol how would he even do that? I don't gamble; can someone with knowledge of sports betting tell me how he could do this?

Without reference to this specific situation, it seems pretty straightforward to do this. Go to a place where you can gamble on sports without being traced, e.g., some website. Bet lots on your team losing. Lose the game.

And how does Kane "lose the game" without help from his team mates or without making it blatantly obvious he's up to something?

Oh, that part doesn't seem easy at all. Sorry --- your phrasing made it seem to me that you were asking about the gambling part, rather than the actually throwing the game part.

Yeah that's what doesn't add up. I don't like the guy, but this really seems like it's just his ex wife trying to cause trouble for him out of spite.

Agreed. I watched a majority of the games, and Kane was extremely high effort every time I saw him (the same cannot nesc. be said for other members of the sharks). If you had to pick one player who was "throwing" the games, he would be dead last on the candidate list.

I guess he could maybe use inside info, i.e. knowledge of nagging injuries that guys play through, knowledge of guys maybe being tired, he might know early when the backup is going to play, etc. That seems like a stretch though, and doesn't seem like it would be all that advantageous in terms of betting anyway.

I mean, it’s the Sharks. He doesn’t even have to confer with his teammates, in fact he doesn’t have to do anything. But the payoff for a Sharks loss is probably garbage anyways.

Will wait and see what the fall out is on the betting against his own team.
Have not much doubt Kane will come out this smelling like an old gym sock.

The margins on betting hockey are razor thin and always will be. There will never be a Haralabos in hockey because it is simply too hard to predict outcomes within any standard deviation.

If he were a goalie, these claims would be more frightening.

So, do I think he actively ‘threw’ games? No, I don’t.

Do I think it’s entirely possible and perhaps quite likely that he was a shitty partner? Absolutely! But that is an entirely different discussion. And one none of us should really engage in.

But how could this happen to such a likeable, misunderstood person who clearly is not a cancer wherever he goes?

These coincidences just seem to follow Evander Kane wherever he goes. Habitually.

It's simply infeasible to make any excuses for the guy in regards to his detrimental impact on team cohesiveness at this point.

Furthermore, he isn't near good enough to justify putting up with his antics. Merely above average and at an age where forwards begin to decline.
