Greene's next contract could hurt if he keeps playing like this.

Dude, the Cap is going up considerably next season in case you forgot(which you probably did).....

I seriously doubt that any new contract for Greene would even put a dent in the Devils budget.

Greene is having a great season and i like to give Mark Fayne some kudos too.

Those two just work so well as a pairing, if DeBoer was smart, he should keep them together for the rest of the sesson. I really dont know why they were split last yesson given they played extremelly well in 2011 season and playoffs.

If Salvador is going to come back into the lineup, it got to be for Volchenkov to pair with Zidlicky.
And Larsson should take Merrill spot to pair with Gelinas.

Now hopefully you guys believe me when I rave about a player. Even when Greene was not doing well a few years back you could see he had something special. I am glad it worked out and they didn't trade him away.

I still believe Greene is better than Martin, but that is just my opinion.

What puts Greene > Martin for me is based around how much more involved and physical Greene is

Greene should be this teams next C

Been saying this since Parise left

The offense from the defense has been a real treat this year. We knew Zids would provide, but the bonus of what Gely has brought, and Greene really stepping up and doing his thing too is really helping us in a big way.

From TG;

“He’s a great offensive player, never mind defensive player,” Jagr said. “He’s great defensively, but for me I’m surprised the way he can read the play, he can make the passes. His skating is excellent, so even if he gets into trouble he’s always in the right position to make a play, make a pass, jump in the play. He plays a lot of and he made great plays today again.”

Jagr benefited from Greene’s aggressive play to score a power-play goal that pulled the Devils within 3-2 5:28 into the third period. After Travis Zajac won the right circle draw, Greene jumped up to grab the puck and move in on the left side. Holtby made a save on his initial shot at the left post, but Greene got the puck back, headed behind the net and found Jagr alone to the right of the net for the easy finish.

“It was not only that pass, but the play before,” Jagr said. “He jumped in the play. He read it well, so he surprised everybody. He even surprised me. The way he jumped in the play everybody stopped because when you play on the power play you don’t really do that.”

How many more point shots are they getting? Pete's system helps the defense and I would argue hinders centers on the scoresheet.

You heard Dano say it two months ago and your very own Buckingham Claude for 5 years. Greene is turning into an excellent defenseman.

Greene is currently tied for the team lead in point shares along with Jagr (hockey-reference.com/teams/NJD/2014.html).

His 4.8 point shares also currently rank 8th among all NHL defensemen this season (see here) - in fact he's just about Karlsson! And last year, Green was on pace for 8.37 point shares, which is All-Star level and led the whole team.

Greene should be strong candidate for Team USA, instead of an afterthought.

Make this man Captain. Perfect mentor for all of our young D.

Salvador...gtfo.

I've been saying this all year. I never liked the idea of Salvador being captain. The guy is consistent night in and night out. Its a shame he won't make Team USA because he doesn't have the big sexy name.

I think his name is plenty "sexy". :naughty:

But in all seriousness, I think it has more to do with him being a NJ Devil(and Team USA officials not even knowing there's a hockey team in NJ) than anything else. :help:

SCREW 'EM!!!

At least Andy would avoid injury....

I always thought Greene had better offensive instincts than Martin, but was miles away defensively. These last 100+ games have had me thinking it's a lot closer.

Much closer:

NHL Live has Andy Greene as one of their "Career Year" guys and they were mentioning how he should be in the mix for Team USA but how it was unfortunate he didn't get the initial invite. Good to see him getting the credit he deserves.

Greene was pretty mediocre the first 5-10 games of the season. I think the emergence of the young guys took a LOT of pressure off him, he doesn't need to sponge up as many difficult minutes and that's let him play a more relaxed and comfortable game.
