Man that bottom 6 is pitiful. You really don't get an idea of how bad it is until you list all of the players. I just browsed through this summer's FA class and it seems as if there are some options for the 4th line. Don't know about the 3rd line though.

Brian Boyle for 3rd line center? Or is he a better winger? He definitely would give the canes the size they need.

Sutter hasn't been that good in Pittsburgh, but I think he could re-find his game and maybe become a 20/20 guy here from the 3rd line. Depends on the price to acquire and sign, though.

I honesty think they would go for a Tlusty+Nash package for Sutter. I think Sutter would be perfect.

BUT if the Pens really want Kesler, Sutter would definitely be in that deal.

What does Nash need to do in everyone's eyes to sell himself as a solid 3C? Seems like he's just a couple steps away from being able to contribute, but like all of our "development" talent, he's just stalled.

I'm almost completely sold on Nash now. He seems to be very competent defensively, and isn't out of place on the Skinner-Lindholm line offensively. Someone stated a week or so ago, Nash's goals seem to have a flair about them. If he could harness that just a little bit more next year, I'd be fine with him as 3C.

He also moves the puck on the PP better than virtually anyone on the team.

I guess it just depends on the direction they want to go with the bottom 6. If they want a "defensive" shutdown line like Sutter was or JStaal was in Pittsburgh then Nash is not that guy. If they want to remake it into a body banging grind line he's not really a fit there either. But if they want to spread the scoring wealth out and have a fast, take-advantage-of-bottom-pair-defense third line, he might not be so out of place. But as others have said countless times, they need to really figure out what they are trying to make instead of just cramming spare parts wherever they may fit.

Not look like a good 4th liner offensively. Especially, if Skinner is on the 3rd. If Skinner is on the 3rd, that line needs to produce consistently. Having Nash centering it seems like a wasted opportunity.

Will be interesting to see what the team does going forward, as the same problems that are here this year, will likely be there next year in terms of line combos.

I was looking for more specifics, since I can't really finger it. Size? Speed? Skating? IQ? I can't quite spot what is keeping him back.

He's not particularly quick on his feet, and doesn't create offensive opportunities very well. There are a ton of plugs out there who can finish, the difference is being able to consistently make things happen without a lot of linemate help. Nash doesn't do that often if at all.

I'd be fine with him as the 4C, but 3C is a real stretch unless we get dynamic offense from both wings.
