Price at 8 years at 31 years old is quite a bit different than Gibson at 8 years at age 25.

Very reasonable contract, if he went into the season unsigned and became a Vezina finalist, that deal turns into something like 7.5-8mil AAV

How is that an awful deal? It's $300k more than Holtby got in 2015 when the cap was much lower. Gibson and Holtby were both 25 when they got those contracts, too. Holtby had a .921 save% in the NHL in 178 games before he signed his deal, Gibson has a .923 save% in 178 games right now.

8 years for a goalie is a massive gamble, but when taking into account what Price, Lundqvist, and other top goalies were able to bargain for relative to the salary cap, and the cap potentially rising substantially, I can see why the Ducks would want to cost control Gibson at what could end up being an extremely reasonable amount.

Ironic as Gibson carried Anaheim just as hard as Getzlaf last season - heck, Gibson was Anaheim's best player last season. Is it a steal? No - but not an awful deal either.

I don't see this as a bad deal, he is a solid starter and now he's locked up for all of his prime years, 6.4 seems reasonable.

Definitely risky, but there's no reason it can't be a good deal. He's a very talented goalie and it's not a huge cost
