When I think about the name Krutov what comes to mind is a fat little guy that got cut from the Vancouver Canucks. :lol
If he really is one of Russia's all time greats, that's pretty sad.

Yes it is true. Bobrov was Russia's coach at the Summit Series, but in his playing career he suited for both the soccer and the hockey national team, and was the best player for both.

I understand Krutov had great chemistry with Larionov and Makarov, however I believe a world class athlete should take a certain amount of pride in preparing himself for his craft.
The other Russians that came here didn't turn themselves into a blimp like Krutov did.
Not only that, I believe the Canucks were paying him something like $375,000 per year, which was a lot of money back then.
There is no rational for him not being able to control his eating. He couldn't adjust to North American Hockey anyways.
When I compare him to the great Bobby Orr, someone who would come to the game 4 hours beforehand just to prepare, well there really is no comparison.

This is clearly the best of hockey I've ever seen. When you compare it to this year's Stanley Cup finals ... it makes me even laugh.

What is your opinion on refereeing in this game? It's been a long time, but then i thought that the (2nd period?) refereeing was a shame. Canucks were slashing like lumberjacks and Larionov and Krutov were sitting in the penalty box for touching the opponent.
Everybody recalls Lemiuex's winning goal, but it was Don Koharski, who gave Canada the victory in this game.

That is far and away the greatest all time international team right there! I often wonder what it would have been like to see some of these guys get right into the NHL like some youngsters now - Tretiak for my money was the greatest goalie ever. IMO him and Roy are the two goalies that far exceed any others... none come close to matching them IMO.

We have a winner!! IMHO, your selections may very well be perfect. I might switch up some line combos (Richard for Yzerman is a thought), but basically the team has it all... outstanding speed (Orr, Hull, Lafleur, Richard), skill (Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, Beliveau), shooting ability (Hull, Lemieux, Lafleur, Espo, Bossy, Richard) and, where it has it on other teams, toughness at forward (Messier, Howe, Clarke) and on defence (Orr, Robinson, Potvin, Shore). FYI, though I give examples, virtually every player has a healthy dose of each attribute. Others that could be considered are Ted Lindsay (most great Canadian teams have more players of his ilk and man, what a leader), Coffey always played GREAT internationally, and Perreault was great in NHL v.s. Soviet club teams in the mid-to-late 70's (too young in '72 to make an impact), but not sure where they could fit in other than as extras.

Anyway, very well done!

I'm very surprised to see no Bryan Trottier on the American teams! He's Canadian Born but so is Brett Hull. Plus he's participated for the States in tournaments before.
