We could always start it today but not have time limits enforced until the 21st. That way we may be able to get a head start but no one will be unfairly penalized assuming they didn't realize that we started this thing already.

exactly: a win-win solution

leagues that do it also tend to have more trades at the outset, as the slow start (when the best players are on the board) gives ample time for trade discussions

and let me help things along by assuring you with utmost certainty that if Vancouver selects Orr as announced earlier then...

1 The Lone Elvi - Vancouver Canucks - Bobby Orr
2 LapierreSports - Montreal Wanderers - Mario Lemieux
3 Nalyd Psycho - St. Louis Eagles - Wayne Gretzky
4 Wisent - Adler Mannheim - Gordie Howe
5 Hockey Outsider - Montreal Canadiens

That 5th overall pick will be the biggest surprise, as it'll almost certainly be a Quebecer going to Montreal, the question is just which one.

Let's slowly get things going.

I keep checking in today in hopes this thing kicks off, anything to divert my attention away from my household chores today.

So am I to understand we're waiting on a rookie already????

Any guesses as to what the 18th pick will be?

Please nobody take it upon themselves to start the draft thread. BM67 is the only one who should be given this right....ever.

Unless of course someone wants to put in the mountain of work it takes to upkeep it and with BM67's standard of accuracy and timely manner.

That should scare anyone off.

I just assumed it would be Blake Wheeler, no?

Lemieux being picked before Gretzky and Howe, if true, would be so wrong on every possible level.

The #5 pick is obvious considering that Raleh pretty much revealed why he traded up to get it. #6 is easy to predict too since pnep usually goes by his HHOF Monitor list.

The hardest ones to predict will be the newcomers, which is why it's always good to have some rookies as GMs to mix things up a bit.

Last draft we determined divisions based on draft position. If we do the same again, with the same format, here's how it will look:

One last bit of bother. Which of these division lineups do we want. Vote please.

We can then place this at the start of the roster thread.

I thought REGIONAL alignment would be easier to keep track of mentally: one division for America East/Atlantic (Don Cherry: NJ, Boston, NY, Buffalo, Philly, Miami, Mannheim), America West (Foster Hewitt: Seattle, Portland, Vegas, KC, St, Louis, Detroit, Detroit), Central canada (Bob Cole: Toronto, Barrie, Aurora, Quebec, Montreal, Montreal, Montreal) and a western canada division (Jim Robson: Vancouver, Nanaimo, Trail, Edmonton, Saskatoon, vancity, Siberia via Vladivostok).

This way Barrie and Aurora are in the same conference!
This way Seattle and Portland are in the same division
This way Toronto is in the Bob Cole Division (how can you honour Cole without the Leafs!)

The other way doesn't make as much sense with our 28-team format this time.
