UPDATED 5/13

Now respected medical and science officials employed by the US Government are being disparaged by elected officials. All we can do is play it by ear.

UPDATED 5/11

This has been the most difficult thread HF Bruins has ever dealt with and it mirrors the reality that we continue to live through something that is unprecedented.

The only way this thread can function going forward is to declare statements made at the Federal level are OFF LIMITS. The exception to this would be statements made by qualified medical and science officials.

In the US and Canada, it is state, provincial, and municipal leaders who are leading the response. They are the ones who will decide when things will start to reopen - NOT leaders in Washington and Ottawa.

Obviously the reopening of the border between the US and Canada will be handled at the Federal level and that is a bridge we will cross when that happens.

Please stay safe everyone.

MASSACHUSETTS DASHBOARD

This is a trying time for all of us no matter where you live.

Right now politics should be set aside. We all have government leaders at the Federal and State/Provincial levels telling us what we must do to get through this.

Adhere to the rules below regarding discussion that is political in nature or you will be warned and permanently removed from this series of threads.

Considering we are relaxing forum rules regarding political discussion, what steps "over the line" is completely at the discretion of the moderation team. Examples of what constitutes appropriate discourse are listed below. When in doubt, don't post it.

UPDATED 4/30 - Compounding this is the Boston area and Massachusetts have been hit harder than most areas and local media and local officials have been blunt over the mixed signals coming from Washington.

UPDATED 5/8 - General Flynn is OFF TOPIC

One thing is clear - Boston and Massachusetts will be among the last areas to even attempt a reopening.

Do not wish harm or infection on members of the public, including the press, be it an individual or network/outlet/newspaper, etc.

It is becoming apparent that threadbans/infractions aren't enough for some people. The next step is a forum ban until hockey season starts.
***
We are going to follow similar rules for this thread that exist in the COVID-19 forum.

You may critique the response of LOCAL government but don't make it political.

Posts attributing motives because it involves this or that political party/politician/ideology will not be tolerated.

Miracle cures, home remedies, and medical advice should not be posted.

Please add a link to any news story

'Not an acceptable answer': Trump criticizes Fauci's Senate testimony

"Now, will you have an incident?" Trump asked, acknowledging the possibility that reopening schools could come at a cost.
"Will something happen? Perhaps. But you can be driving to school and something can happen, too," he said

In a lifetime of stupid shit this clown has said, this has to be the most profoundly idiotic things he's ever uttered. Tell you what, Don. You send your own kid to public school in NYC for a few weeks and see how it goes.

Just too many articles day in and day out, from both sides, and opinions from both sides. As a Canadian, I know we are NOT in a perfect place ourselves, but the shit show that IS the USA these days just makes me sad for my fellow posters (on both ends of the political spectrum). The current discord in your country could NOT be happening at a worse time. Too many people saying too many things, and while I would go with the obvious, it's a shame at at time like this that so many officials could be so far apart on such important, impactful situations. I've never been too patriotic when it comes to our own politics, but damn, this is unreal, the day to day that the average US resident has to endure. I wouldn't wish this on a Hab's fan...

Rand Paul calling out Dr. Fauci is the epitomy of everything wrong within our political system right now. Somehow this idea that the information people obtained on a google search is equal to the intellectual experiences of a 30+ year professional in the field. I think the missing equation in congress is more scientists, less lawyers. I think then and only then will facts be discussed rather than semantics. Just my 2 cents.

CT seeing a slow but steady decline in hospitalizations during the past week. Death toll is 3219, the bulk of these deaths occurring in Fairfield (1093) and Hartford (999) counties. Windham County has had 290 cases but only 3 deaths. My town still holding steady at 2 cases & zero deaths.

We (the state) are going to start re-opening May 20, 2020 but schools & scholastic sports/events are done for the year.

It would be one thing if Rand's position was based on science that countered what Fauci believes, but it's not. It's based on money. And wanting to reopen and get back to "normal". And that has no business being put on the same level as what the foremost expert in this field says. None. And again, if Rand were presenting a differing opinion, I could at least understand it, but his whole rant was nothing more than an attempt to undermine Fauci's level of expertise and invalidate it in the court of public opinion. It's all just so slimy because it's nothing more than disinformation designed to muddy the waters.

Rand Paul is a physician who still practices medicine. You may not like what he had to say but Dr. Fauci had no problem with it. See the entire video clip if you don't believe me.

I watched it live. Rand took it upon himself to make his question not about the response, but more of a vendetta against the bad press he's been getting for not wearing a mask. Rand purposefully used all of his time at the end to grandstand and Dr. Fauci had to ask for the chance to rebut what Rand Paul said and was given the ability to do so. Just Rand Paul doing what Rand Paul does best, blow hot air into a mic and waste everyone's time.

Also, I'll take the word of an immunologist over an ophthalmologist when it comes to infectious disease.

There's a world of difference between being an ophthalmologist and a specialist that has 40 years of experience in tracking and battling infectious diseases and how they're spread, no?

Oh please physicians keep up on all sorts of things not related to their specialty. You just don't like him because he's supported the President. Be honest.

I don't like him because he's ignoring the experts advice because it conflicts with his interest of reopening the country now instead of in a safer manner. And he's basing it only on $$$ not science, despite being a medical professional. Not really taking his Hippocratic Oath very seriously, is he?

Honest...yeah there are specialists.

You dont go to a proctologist if you need an eye doctor do you? They may keep up.

Keep up? Doesnt make him an expert by a long shot. You are reaaalllyyy stretching here.
Waaaaay out there.

You dont like this because your false God has shit all over him. If you want honest Betsy.

the real head scratcher was that laura ingraham person basically saying (i don't have a direct quote,
so paraphrasing here) that people shouldn't listen to dr fauci because he was never elected. that
was a doozy.

His reckless behavior both before and since he tested positive should be enough to get his license to practice revoked for life.

Now that's crazy!! I didn't see that, so thanks for bringing it up. I always laugh when someone says something that idiotic. The founding fathers didn't trust the unwashed masses like us to be smart enough to make the right call in an election, which is why we have the electoral college. To protect us from ourselves. So now we're the litmus test for what's right medically in a pandemic? Shit. I need to update my skillset on LinkedIN. Apparently I'm a f***ing expert...
