It does make sense since he is heavy into analytics and modeling and we are a team that makes deals based on what our analytics say is the best option.

That said I think we are going to make him look even smarter than he already is this year.

That's exactly what's driving all of this. Canes are seeing the same things (more or less) that Luzwhatever sees. The approach is becoming more and more evident in each of these transactions, where the equation is basically [advanced stats + can he get along with rod?] = acquire.

I think it needs to be modified to: artificially low value coefficient * [advanced stats + can he get along with rod?] = acquire

A game to kill some time until Faulk makes his decision: from this list, pick one guy you'd bet $1,000 *will* score 30 and one guy you'd bet $1,000 *won't* score 30: Aho, Teravainen, Dzingel, Svechnikov and Niederreiter.

Me: Aho - yes, Teravainen - no.

If he gets first line ice Svechnikov - yes
If he moves down to the second line Nino - no

Another fun game. While perusing the trade board for the Faulk thread, I saw the trade your worst player for another team's worst player. Who would we classify as our worst player? We're damn solid top to bottom, and the few players I saw in that thread would make me unhappy to trade any of our guys for.

I think the easy answer is Fleury, but I don't know that I'd have him on the roster personally given other options.

If not him, Foegele? Reimer? Wallmark? McGinn? Those may all be damn solid players for us.

I thought about this earlier and struggled as well. I came to the conclusion if I had to pick right now I would say Reimer just because we were able to get him for Darling.

Goaltenders are just super-weird, though, they can go from god-awful to great in the span of one season (see the case of Devan Dubnyk).

What we would have gotten for Marleau?

Me: Aho - yes, Teravainen - no.

All of this depends on the lines....but, Dzingel - yes, Niederreiter - no

I think our 3rd line which could be some combination of 3 of - Dzingel, Haula, Foegele, Necas, McGinn will absolutely eat up other 3rd lines. I could see Dzingel and Haula getting 50 goals between them.

Right now with no additions, I'd like to see us roll:

Dzingel/Aho/Svechnikov
Niederreiter/Staal/Teravainen
Foegele/Haula/Necas
Martinook/Wallmark/McGinn

If we get Kase, then this:

Svechnikov/Aho/Kase
Niederreiter/Staal/Teravainen
Dzingel/Haula/Necas
Foegele or McGinn/Wallmark/Martinook

I was having this exact same thought. I suppose our "worst" player (NHL roster, realistically speaking) would be Fleury?

I saw that thread and thought “You call that a game, I call it the JR years.”

@NotOpie likes the longshots. Betting a $1000 on a 27 year old guy that has 66 career NHL goals as the one that will hit 30 this year, of all the guys listed.

Will love it if you are right though!

I mean he's no Chris Terry, but....:naughty:.... at any rate, my guess is that Dzingel is either on the 1st line next to Aho, the "trigger man" on Staal's line, or part of a 3rd line that has "feast" potential....but heck, it's off season and it's @My Special Purpose money.

I take it you didn't enjoy regularly having to ice rosters with players like Kevin Westgarth, Tim Conboy, Wade Brookbank, etc...
Guys who played at least 60% of the games for the 12/13 Carolina Hurricanes. My line-ups may be off as I tried to wipe that season from memory.

Tlusty-E. Staal-Semin
Skinner-J. Staal-LaRose
Bowman-Jokinen*/Nash-Dwyer (* Jokinen traded at deadline).
Westgarth-Brent-Wallace - Nash

The defense that year after Pitkanen had his career ending injury?
Gleason-Corvo
Faulk-Harrison
MAB**-McBain (** acquired mid season).
Sanguinetti

Woof.
