Hawks really nerd a superstar draft prospect ..but even IF they are a lottery team they probably will be the usual 8-15 pre-lotto spot and to expect another top 3 after lotto is asking too much.
Anyway IF Hawkd get extremely luck with a lotto and get either #1 or#2 overall..I now have Matco Rossi right up there with Alexis Lafreniere as the 2 best prospects in this draft ...
Here are the comparisons of what they have done in their junior leagues so far...Lafreniere is #1 in QMJGL scoring g and Rossi leads the OHL in scoring..
Rossi as a Center does mire things of value than does Lafrenierexas a LW. OVERALL Rossi is better in more categories ..
Here are the numbers:
Lafreniere (Rimouski ,QMJHL):
32 GP 23g 47a =70pts +20 s% = 13.69 (168shog)
Points per game= 2.1875l
Rossi (Ottawa ,OHL)
28GP 24g 42a =66pts +43 s% =23.76
(101 shog)
Faceoff win% 58%*
Points per game = 2.35
*Rossi as a C takes a lot of draws ...Lafreniere as a LW takes few draws..so not fair to compare them on this ..but it does add to the value of Rossi in a would you rather have a Cor LW debate.
As to goals scoring and assists I think Rossi with 4 games less played would probably get 8 or more points and that would put him 4 points or more ahead of Kafreniere.
As to shot...you can see Rossi has superior efficiency but Kafreniere gets off a lit more shots ...While getti g off shots is nice..it matters only in the end how many go in the net ..
Bit let us call the offensive production equally good comparing them..Rossi gets extra value
For faceoff win contribution and while both are credited as 2 way players who give effort and defensive responsibility...this +/- numbers for Ross (+43)already ...with hald a season remaining are incredible given his big lead over all others on the OHL (he is tops in +/_ by a wide matgin) and more than double over Lafreniere...and while +/_ is usually attributed mostly to team circumstance (how good his team around him is) you must realize that last season Rossi finished at +51..and his oacebon +/- with half a season to go will smash that stat of last season by a lot..on pace for maybe +85 or more..
He is just such a good player in all categories..
The only thing he has not got is height (5'9-5'10) ...but like Crosby or Marchand is also very strong on lower body...thus great balance and wi s board battles and hard to dispossess off the puck.
He is a complete hockey player ..does everything well...
Will play and impact in the NHL next season for the lucky team that drafts him.
He may not go as high as he should because of the bias vs.smaller players (height)..He has added weight this season so he is pr ably closer to 190 than180 now.
For instance ..if NJ does not get the #1 pick they will not take Rossi because last year day drafted Generational Jack as their small C superstar (they hipe)...
They will go for a winger or for a Big C in Byfield to compliment Hughes.
So likely Rossi will go only #3 or lower depending on certain teams positional needs and current depth.
But if the Hawks get lucky and get a #2 or#3 after lotto then I would want Rossi who would have a huge impact on the Hawks
Likecaddibg a Kane on offense but also get the benefit of a much better defensive game and also a great faceoff guy.Tge future 1C after the inevitable drop down in lines fir agai ng Toews.
Will the Hawks get that lucky?Probably not .
If you have not seen the magic of Marco Rossi just Google Draft Dynasty Marco Rossi and you will get a Scouting Reportt with extensive video which was done 1month ago ..beforecRosdi went to an even higher level over the past month!
You will see elite passing and puck co trolls skills..plus an analysis of his defending excellence . The analysis suggests he could be more accurate with his shot but cone on 23.7shooting % and this guy asks for even more accuracy?...this tells you that when he shoots he is getting really good scoring chances even though he likes to distribute so much. Not a perimeter player but goes to the tough slot areas and will do screens too ...does it all...you cannot find fault in his game.
I have said..he is the most complete hockey player in the 2020 draft ..Any team getting him will be getting a gem.
