Don't like that they are keeping this clown coach. He is perfect in his own little mind. It's everybody else's fault but his. I think that Dubas wanted to fire him but Shanahan did not approve. If so, I lost a lot of respect for Shanahan.
So he trusts him to make trades, sign and re-sign players, over see both pro and amateur scouting, but he doesn't trust him on the coach?
That's an odd delineation of trust between the two.
My guess he made it look and feel like he was thinking about removing him to appease the frustrated part of the fan base. The whole smoke screen where he mentioned even his own job security with the "everyone will be reviewed" line which we know was going to come to anything.
But I don't think Babcock was really ever close to being fired TBN. Maybe because Shanahan has too much pride because he brought him here and was widely praised for doing so. Maybe because they can't get an adequate replacement no matter how much shouting from rooftops we hear about Keefe.
Either way, it does raise an issue I've been curious about for a while now and that's Shanahan's influence and management of these two which I'm not sure has been focused on enough. He went around big name hunting when putting the management and coaching staff together, but keeping it together will be interesting to watch.
