lol at @WetcoastOrca liking this post when the poster says "hatred of Ovechkin" and I've been called the biggest Ovi fan on this site.

Also, you asked me to show you a better stretch, and I did. It's not impressive for Ovi. Because he started with 7 in 2 two seasons back. Impressive for Ovi is 20 goals in 7 games or something like that.

If you want to know what I consider impressive for generational level talent then see the stat below

Don’t be so sensitive. I wasn’t liking the part that said you hate Ovechkin but rather reflecting on your original comment.
It’s kind of ridiculous to say Ovechkin’s streak is not that impressive. Of course it is. As was Laine’s. Just because another player has done something equally impressive in the past doesn’t change that.
And at age 34!

I admit, I don't want him catching 894. Those days are just nostalgic for me, that said I don't hate Ovi and if he breaks it, then he breaks it. I won't be a crying little bitch about it haha

He's leading the league in goals again. He was 9 goals back from Pasta like few weeks a go. I said (and I always end up eating my words with OV and scoring) that distance is probably too much for him to catch. Took him a handful of games and being suspended in one. JFC... :shakehead

For the record Ovechkin's 11 in 5 at age 34 is actually more impressive than Laine doing the same in one less game at age 20. ;)

Sorry but no. Laine had 5 goals on 5 shots taken in one game in that streak. That's something else.

I don't think there is any question he is a PP specialist, nothing wrong with that, it's part of the game. He does obviously get goals other ways, but he is going to break the PP career goals by a wide margin. Shatter it actually.

432 career even strength goals. 259 career PP goals.

He is great at both.

You haven't watched the Caps this year, have you? Because the PP is a disaster right now, and Ovie is on the biggest goal scoring bender of his career. Those aren't PPGs.

llllllloooooooool wut????

He is not.

Sure he is. He is a great score scorer in general, but he's probably the best currently. And i know the Caps PP offense isn't so good currently, but give me a break about Ovi not being great at the PP.

Ovi isn't a pp specialist though. That refers to a player only good at pp. He's a very good overall player. His assist total is pretty crap this season though. He needs to step it up.

Here's the crazy thing.

When the season started, I looked at his goal totals and how much it would take for him to get to #7 all time (Gartner at 708). I told myself, you know what at 34 years old, if he gets even CLOSE to that (meaning another 45-50 goals season), that'd be an amazing feat.

Well, hold and behold, he's actually on pace to get near Esposito (717) at 6th all time.

The crazier thing if he does get to Esposito? All it will take him next year to pass Dionne (731), Hull (741), and Jagr (766) would be a...~40 goals season. Putting him 3rd all-time at age 35.
We could be seeing him get in Howe territory 2 years from now. By age 36-37.

INSANE.

Honestly, I'm a huge Ovi fan and I was cautiously hoping he might catch pasta at the end of the season. Realistically figured I'd be happy if he just touches 50 again, and if pasta can put up 60 then he earned the damn rocket. Nobody can blame you for that take, it's plain unbelievable what's happening right now.

Problem with that 'PP specialist' narrative is mainly it is used like defamatory argument against OV, while in reality you can point to almost every other goal scorer for how much lower level they can perform in PP goal scoring. Objectively, OV is PP specialist, but that is also expected from the great goal scorers, not something to frown upon, OV being the greatest (or soon to be greatest) of them.

Generally its incredibly hard to be a player, score shit loads of PP goals and play a lot of PP TOI, without being good in goal scoring in 5-on-5 situations, as such players seldom get promoted to PP-squads. Least to be the PP pointmen.

People should just start give middle fingers to those trolls that continuously, and erroneously point OV being somehow bad because he gets it done also in PPs, that it would make him someway lesser as goal scorer.

Would Ovechkin breaking the records in any way make that era less nostalgic? :P
