Curious what HF Boards thinks his value is right now. Coming off a good season, nearly 0.5 PPG . Also played big minutes with a bad dcore and his partner Tanev out for half the season. I realize his NTC and past comments, but it's his final year on his contract so who knows.

Mid-late 1st rounder?

Zero because he will not waive. Mid 1st plus a good prospect... he had a quietly decent year for argument sake

Assuming that you are out of the playoff race next season, at the TDL you could probably expect a 2nd and a conditional 2nd (on the team reaching the conference finals) for him. That's probably the best you could expect

5yrs ago it was Tatar, Smith and a 1st round pick but Gillis turned down that offer.

As of now I say a late 1st or two 2nd

People outside Vancouver might not realize how awful the Canucks have actually been for most of Edler's career. It's very difficult to gauge his play based on NHL games. Watch him on Team Sweden and he's like a different guy.

Canucks constantly rein in this player because they cannot afford to lose him. Left to his own devices, this guy thumps people. He can shoot, too. Defensemen on Canucks are not encouraged to blast away from the point because of injury potential to slow moving forwards.

Hockey, despite access to modern analytics, is conventional. Edler's actual value remains tied to his NHL performance. IMO, this makes him a bargain with untapped potential. Add the bashful negotiating by Benning and I think you could have a top pairing horse for a scoring forward. If Benning dares insist on futures he is easily distracted by former first rounder projects. He has never really chased picks but two second rounders (one early) would almost certainly do it.

Edler has a year left and lessened ties to this team with the Sedins gone. Scoop this guy, now!

He really flew under the radar this year. Had a very good year on an absolutely terrible team.

He’s eligible to sign a new contract on July 1. That is now likely to change his attitude towards his ntc. That of course depends on the Canucks deciding whether they plan to extend him or not. If not then:

He would first have to get permission from the Canucks to talk to other teams about a new contract before he would waive. Once he and his agent are comfortable with he couple of teams where the contract and destination match up, he can tell the Canucks where he would like to go.

He’s in full control. It’s whether he wants the security now of contract extension or whether he wants to play it out.
