I would say there is a better chance he will waive it. Because the team that he is going too can offer him an extension now. Before they couldn't. Before if he waive it and that team doesn't offer him an extension and then he will need to change teams again.

However only way he will waive .
if the team offer him a contract extension

There's proably a decent chance the Canucks re-sign him; especially since it'd make sense for them to select a right side defenseman in this year's draft. None of Michael Del Zotto, Ben Hutton, or Derek Pouliot have the playing style I'd want to pair w/ a young d-man.

He's a very good player. He's been a top-pairing caliber player for a decade. Yet you pretty much universally only see people rip on him.
People resent Edler because of him only playing for one team, and not wanting to be a mercenary. Player movement is the only thing that matters on this website, so a player like Edler that provides none generates bitterness among the masses here.

Possible? Sure.

Not sure how you can say it’s obvious, though, when all the evidence we’ve had to date points to him not wanting to waive.

Also, maybe tone down the snarkiness.

He's not the Sedins as he will be 33 when his contract expires, not 37. So, IMO, he's more likely to be moved at the draft vs the TDL.

Pro of moving now is the security of a new contract. For Edler to be moved, he'd likely request from the Canucks, the opportunity to speak to other teams about a contract first. He can't officially sign until July 1, but he would want to make sure any team he'd waive to, is prepared to sign the deal that they discuss in principle. Term, dollars, trade protection.

He can opt to play out his contract, but this is Canucks D that always seems to get hurt. No twins, so a lot of reliance of young players, likely to hurt the stat sheet.

But, don't be expecting a long list from Edler. It likely is only going to be 3 or 4 teams that he okays going to. He's not going anywhere that just wants his for the duration of his current contract only. Has to be an extension for him to go to another team.
