Leading the league in goals and points. But hey, cannot drive his line so not really a useful player ......

He was just stuck in a bad situation for his game last year. This year you are seeing the real Debrincat.
Yeah if he’s a top whatever point getter in the league then we will certainly look stupid

Serious question: If we managed to make the playoffs last year, do you think Dorion could have convinced Debrincat to sign long-term?

I do not think so.

It was just not a great spot for Debrincat for a couple of reasons. I do not think the playoffs would have made any difference.

IF Norris had not been hurt and they clicked and he had a very strong offensive year, that would have been much more useful in convincing him to stay.

and no Pinto
Arguably we cleared 5.3M with the deal, so I do not see the deal as the reason Pinto was not signed. If we had kept Debrincat, we'd still be without Pinto and Tarasenko.

Using the 5.3 to sign Tarasenko, thats a different story.

we could have never made a DBC re-signing work. Pinto, Greig, Sanderson, and later Chychcrun (7-8mill?) all needed contracts. How can you pay DBC 7-8 mill knowing that?

it was always a 1 year rental for a #7 (+) pick so Dorion can make himself not look like a failure. Or Dorion has no ability to plan.

What do you guys think will be the best part of this deal:

A single year of Kubalik
A mid-first rounder
or the d prospect currently in his second season of the ECHL
Got to hope one of Boston or Detroit (or both) falters to get the best pick possible. The pick could be a mid-round first, or whatever. Hard to know with so few games played but early indications (only) are not looking hopeful.

It's fine to be excited. But it's 5 games into the season. Let's see where things end up at the end of the season before making grand proclamations.

I distinctly remember Sharks fans coming here to taunt us when they had a decent win streak early in the 2019-20 season. They ended up giving us the Stutzle pick in the end.

So if the Sens bottom out who do you blame? Or who would you hold accountable

I for one don’t give a f*** about Furquaad. I think Tkachuk takes care of him next time they meet.

He was named the NHL's Star of the Week with 5 goals and 3 assists in 4 games

Here are some things to note about DeBrincat’s hot start:

  • He became the first player in Red Wings history to record eight goals through his first six games with the franchise.
  • He became the second player in NHL history to record at least three points in each of his first three home games with a franchise, joining Harry Meeking (1917-18 Toronto Arenas).
  • He became the third player in NHL history with multiple goals in each of his first three home games with a franchise, joining Newsy Lalonde (not his coach) and Joe Malone (1917-18 Montreal Canadiens).
  • He became the sixth player to record at least 10 points in his first six or fewer games with the franchise, joining Paul Coffey (five games in 1992-93), Dominik Kubalik (six games in 2022-23), Ed Litzenberger (six games in 1961-62), Dutch Reibel (six games in 1953-54) and Murray Armstrong (six games in 1943-44).
  • He is the fifth Michigan-born player in Red Wings history to record a hat trick, joining Jimmy Carson (four), Larkin (two), Justin Abdelkader (two) and Kevin Miller.

Ok?

What about his favourite food?

If he were a tree, what kind of tree would he be?

There are more Red Wings fans posting here than on their own board.

He has a 42% shooting percentage right now. Clearly, that won't last.

He is a very good player. Was a top goal scorer since he entered the league, didn't have as good a season with us as we would like, but he will continue to be a top goal scorer in the league for many years.

it was always a 1 year rental for a #7 (+) pick so Dorion can make himself not look like a failure. Or Dorion has no ability to plan.

We could have fit in DeBrincat for 8x8 had we not added Korpisalo, Tarasenko and Kubalik (11.5M).

He could have been fit in cap-wise, but my argument has always been that it didn't make sense to commit 8M or so to our 2nd line LW given it wouldn't allow us to improve in other areas. Trading as much as we did for him never made sense for that reason.

I don't believe Dorion thought he was likely to stay beyond this season. Plan was to rent him for a year, have him score 40G+ and help the team make the playoffs (helping Dorion's case for remaining GM), then be traded away for hopefully as much as we traded to get him.

Not a great plan, obviously. Blew up in his face and we're much worse off for it.

How are we worse off trading DBC, the team looks so much better than they did last yr? And they still have a few prospects knocking at the door & six picks in the first 4 rds of the 2024 draft. Once they get this Pinto situation fixed they will have plenty of cap space next yr & might be able to add another good player. Even if they were to lose all three UFAs they will have plenty of cash to replace them with a good player or two, they seem to have a very bright future.

Amazing!

I've also always thought of him as the next Eddie Litzenberger!
