There was the argument that a good season by the AHL squad combined with a bad season by the NHL squad would be bad at the local level if both teams were based in NJ.

Yet in that scenario, the Devils season continues. I'd think there would be a decent level of excitement surrounding a run in the AHL playoffs if the team were based in NJ.

Skeptical that there will be much by way of excitement or fan turnout in Albany.

I'd love to go see a game, but I'm not driving 3.5 hrs to do it.

If we make it far I might head down to Albany, it's about a 4.5 hour drive from me. My college room mate lives in the area so I might have to make a weekend out of it.

The Albany area is known to be apathetic to minor league sports overall.
It's more of a college sports town.

The ADevs fans that attend games are very rabid and love their team.
But, the general sports fan in the Capital Region is not focused on pro sports such as the AHL.

With players such as Zacha, Sevs, Bouch and Blandisi on the team it has drawn more attention from the NJ fanbase for sure.

Are you in South Jersey?

City Beer Hall. The food was good, people were friendly and Sergei Brylin stopped in while I was there in November. Like a 100 yard walk to the entrance of the areana too.

I've been to Times Union a few times and yea City Beer Hall is great especially when it's nice out and they have the outdoor patio open on the second level with the grills going.

Are they ever planning on making it actually affordable to get the online package to watch these games? It's like they dont want anyone to pay attention to AHL hockey...

lol I literally just realized the AHL now has the semi-complicated NHL-type format for the playoffs. So I guess we're playing Utica (Vancouver) no matter what. Kind of stinks we'll have to play the Marlies in the second round as opposed to the Conference Finals, oh well.

Is it def Utica or are Hartford and Bridgeport still possible?

EDIT: Check that now I'm confused...the playoff primer has Bridgeport as the matchup? I guess the AHL system's even more convoluted than the NHL

It seemed like they went by NHL playoff rules but apparently they tweak the bracket to account for record, so Toronto gets to play the lowest-ranked playoff team (Utica).

Yeah, the playoff system is awful. Completely ridiculous that the Devils have to play Toronto in the second round when they're both top 3 teams in the league.

The thing that sucks about this though is that you can't choose where to sit. You can just pick a general area and then they seat you. ( endzone, corners, center ice)

Yeah, but you got to choose what's best for you, save a few bucks with the presale or pay list price and pick your exact location.

*Chances are you can just move to other seats if you're really not happy with the presale seats.

I need to ask this question again :

Didn't the Devils website air the AHL playoffs last year?

(this is the part where someone answers and doesn't ignore me. :sarcasm: )
