And that's why folks, some people show smarts.

And many commonly don't.

Montreal killed their last 25 penalties, the longest sequence in team's history. They got SH goals in the process resulting in a very unusual statistic. To you it's a case of professional hockey players having laziness on the PP ingrained from a young age and reinforced throughout their journey to the NHL. To me it looks like the result of sound positioning, cutting passing lanes, pressuring the puck even in the neutral zone, not falling back on the net and excelling at retrieving loose pucks.

There's showing smart and trying to look smart. I think you did an ok effort on the latter.

They aren't mutually exclusive.

In fact, they go hand in hand in this case. MTL being smart with positioning etc, opponents being lazy on the PP.

Try not to strawman a post, and then your own posts will begin to look smarter.

It's an absolutely nutty Stat tbh,

40 time short handed, 3 goals allowed 4 scored.
It's as if they played an entire game + 1 full overtime period shorthanded (with a roster player also being out) where every 2 minutes they would need to take a mandatory defensive zone faceoff and still won 4-3. Thankfully, they seem immune to horrific officiating.

Hockey players slack off on the PP. It's ingrained in them at a very young age and reinforced all the way up to the NHL.

Smart PK'ers take advantage of that laziness combined with the nature of the PP setup - static and 150 feet from their own net. Ripe for scoring on transition.

The habs have been an awful PK team for a couple seasons.

Ducharme never really had time to put a stamp on his team when he got hired. Remember that the habs played 25 games in 43 days to finish out the season, in a division with alot of travel, so that week off before the playoffs maybe helped him implement some adjustments.

But thats not enough time to make such a transformation. It's probably just a combination of goaltending getting better, luck, and ducharme's adjustments.

It will be a different story if we face the Lightning PP.

All teams have to beat them to gain the Stanley cup.

The Habs should worry about game 4 and let potential opponents remain hypothetical.
Yeah and I don't think this is happening. Tampa is winning no matter who they face. Only way they could lose is if Price steps up yet another level.

That's a lot words to say "I refuse to admit Montreal's good"

1) Cool stat, good call OP
2) Small sample size of course, but
3) I wonder if this will lead to teams building around playoffs special teams more? Sounds kinda silly, but those units seem as controllable a factor as anything in the postseason- if you can reach the playoffs with one of the better special teams situations..

If I have understood right Joel Armia is a PK scoring specialist, he made shitloads of shorthanded goals at Jets.. guess it shows
