I watched one of those YouTube videos where the whole thing was condensed down to like 30 minutes. Anyway, I thought it was pretty good.

I thought the Cody - Dustin match was good. Really think there's some potential there with Dustin. I was never that into Goldust, but I like the idea of a sort of Two Face from Batman sort of guy if they can leverage the makeup into a character. Kind of like what they did with Joker Sting.

Really like the Battle Royale concept. Would have liked to have seen the wrestlers actually draw their cards from a deck. MJF really stood out for me and he has some potential, but I think he'd work better in that role were he a Brit. I'm taking the Burberry scarf a bit far I know, but either way the guy makes a good heel.

Tag match was good. Something I don't love about the Young Bucks. I'm genuinely curious though, have they faced many bigger (literally big, as in taller and heavier) sides?

Omega - Jericho was fine. Moxley entrance didn't do much for me personally as it didn't seem 100% clear what he was there to do. Go at Jericho? Go at Omega? Or just make an entrance.

Great to have JR back on commentary and I thought he was definitely needed.

Biggest takeaway I would say from this show is that they can put on a good show, but they REALLY need to work on that roster.

Thought they delivered and was a good show. SCU and the Joshi were stars.

Lucha Bros are awesome and can/will be/are huge. Fenix is amazing.

My 2 big problems with the show.

1. Jerhico/Kenny was bad. The match was S L O W and Jerhico looked like if the match went any longer he was going to die in the ring. If I didn't know Kenny at all I would be scartching my head whats the big deal?

2. Blood in the Rhodes match. Yup I am one of those guys but I don't think blood really has a place in 2019 wrestling, and for sure not at the extremes we saw in that match. Sorry but that was disgusting and created a dangerous work enviroment for no reason. For a company that talks up health care so much, putting people at risk with all that blood just seems so opposite. To me its that same as chair shots to the head. Sure when Rock was blasting mankind at the Rumble I cheered like an idiot, but now a days I can't stand shots to the head and its the same with blood. Both of those things should stay in the history of wrestling.

Outside of that was a good show and Moxley is a huge signing. As long as Khan will write the checks AEW should be able to keep the lights on.

Kind of. I was thinking a Sheamus/Ceasar/Wyatts/Road Warriors type team. I was legitimately asking for the record.

The blood in the Rhodes match was awesome. Definitely elevated the match and a clear advantage over the way WWE handles blood in recent times. You don't need mid 2000s JBL match bloodbaths but it differentiates things and makes things look more serious. Ultimately blood is one element of a wrestler's toolkit and should be used when appropriate, and Dustin did a great job. He's learned since his days vs Blacktop Bully.

I don't really have a problem with blood in wrestling these days, but I don't think wrestlers need to blade much, if at all anymore.

I've begun to appreciate when a wrestler takes a bad bump and starts leaking from the nose or mouth. Not that I want to see wrestlers take bad bumps, but it gives the fight an air of legitimacy as opposed to obviously red-masking oneself like Goldy did.

I'd rather see them blade than have to eat stiff elbows to the head because of a no blade policy.

I heard someone put it very well on these shows. (Paraphrasing)

- It's hard to get an unbiased review of this show because you have people who want them to succeed so badly they'll turn a blind eye in a second and then you have the other side who will defend WWE at any cost.

I truly believe that's the case. I see so many differing opinions. When people shit on the show, I just laugh. That's insane. Those star ratings are on the high end and I definitely do not agree with them.

Agreed, Cornette actually did a good fair review. I didn't see the battle Royale except for some YouTube clips and there was definitely outlaw bullshit on it.

The PPV itself I thought was good carried by 3 great matches at the end.

I think we all want this to be successful so we're definitely giving it more leeway but you know what we didn't see? Bad comedy, or badly written and recited promos

^ Yep and I totallllly agree. I also think it's better to have an average start but a bad ass finish. What you are left off with is so important. And it was a damn good taste.

Jericho/Omega would probably only get 3.75 from me. It was good but I can't give anything more than good. Lucha Bros vs. Bucks was great, but not 4.75 great. Rhodes match was definitely great and would be my highest ranked match and I would give both Rhodes and Bucks match an equal 4.5 for different reasons.

But ratings are just ratings. Just rando numbers from what someone thinks. Oh well.

Yeah star ratings are so subjective I feel. There are people who are more loose with a 5 star rating, and people who probably only have like 5-10 five star ratings since 1985. I know thats why when you do a likert scale for surveys and analysis you usually group the numbers/answers together in boxes. 1 and 2 grouped together and 4 and 5.

I'm glad if people (Meltzer, Meltzer parrots) like the Rhodes match, but year there definitely seems to be a healthy dose of exaggeration in those rankings. I can't speak for the Young Bucks match but every other one looks at least .5 higher than I would think, some more than that. It's certainly possible (and a generous way to look at it) that he inflated it because of some desire to see the company succeed. Meltzer is entitled to his opinion like everyone else and some of the fanatics I've seen online needlessly ripping everything about the show definitely exaggerate more. As noted it's all just opinions from random people.

people would cry when Dave rated matches high online. (not here... maybe here)
the ongoing joke is "if this match woulda been at the Dome, he woulda give it 6 starts!*

well. this is in Vegas.... this is what Dave likes. no one should care lol.
Theres also a story they built behind the 3 main events. that not many fans were following online... they built such matches not just on the press conferences, but on their shows too.

The battle royal was introducing those wrestlers to the people who dont know them. Havok did Havok things, Cassidy, Janella, MJF... it was what it was. those are rarely good. people had high hopes because they expected things... surprises... but those matches arent good usually, ever and this was entertaining. (i love royal rumbles, but battle royals always look dumb. this was a mix of both... bad and good moments too)

Unfortunately, Corny is going to get an ass ton of hate for not liking everything. Some of the AEW fans needs to take it down a notch and take criticism.

Just speaking for myself I consider myself invested in the company and we all have to understand there will be bumps in the road and we shouldn't get upset by legit criticism but as long as they don't do bad comedy and stupid promos I'll remain onboard
