Id love to get two ufa dmen but if that means we cant get a 2nd center then i dont want to do that. I wont be able to deal with brooks groin being our 2nd c.

They could always trade for the second one or go with a cheaper secondary target. IMO Bellemore and perhaps Weaver could be solid value in UFA. Hard to say with the later after Montreal's playoffs but some of the reported $2M stuff seems awfully reasonable (esp. when compared to Erskine). They could also go the bonus-laden route with Robidas.

@TGfireandice: For those asking, teams can still buy out players by placing them on unconditional waivers tomorrow. Buyout period ends at 5 p.m. tomorrow.

I'd trade away Brouwer to open up cap space. I think Fehr can replace him in the PP formation.

Thankfully, with the summer cap you can make corresponding moves after you went over the cap.

This is significantly better than last year.

P.S. Maybe Hillen - Orlov is an even better third pairing. For those two games before Hillen goes down with a long-term injury.

So far, Teds puppet has failed his first two tests: no Laich buyout, no moves made at the draft.

July 1st is his next test, and I have zero faith in him, or the rest of this management to improve this team.

More of the same it appears.

Shame when a Defense including both Poti and Schultz considered the good old days.

To the bolded, do we hold Jets GM hostage to get him agree to that?

Overall, this roster can be summed up by one sentence: salary cap is overrated.

Hillen in the minors. Move Erskine and it works (just barely). Ehrhoff and Niskanen projected high dollar.

Ehrhoff isn't costing 7mil. Probably 4.5-5.5.

Hey guys, how about we give next years 1st + Johansson for Ehrhoff? Sounds like a great plan!

Then maybe a 2nd + Kuznetsov for Klesla!

On topic, Buffalo needs to get up to the floor, give them Laich.

As expected, you have no grasp on the situation regarding the Ehrhoff buyout.

Trade Mike Green for a C or assets to get a C.

Sign one of Erhoff/Niskanen and a veteran third pairing guy.

Trade for a C.

I'll laugh until I cry if they simply sign a defenseman and someone like David Legwand. It'd be EXACTLY what McPhee would have done.

I love Johansson...I think he has a great deal of upside.. I would rather see him as our second line center then anyone else, I would rather see him get traded for a 7th round pic then watch him on the first line trying to pass to a triple teamed Ovi because Backstrom and Mojo absolutely will not shoot and every other team knows this

Ehrhoff was bought out because his trade value was 2x as much as Johansson + 1st and nobody would pay it up

gmgm and gmbm were and are nothing more than puppets for ted/dick.
Do just barely enough to convince the stupider fans (of which there alot) that you are serious about being a contender so the ticket/merchandise sales keep up.
Ted has never been serious about winning with the Capitals and never will be. The asinine gm and head coaching hires this summer prove that once and for all.

Then how exactly was that his trade value?

Cause Buffalo had to factor the 10 mil recapture at the end in, and they had to factor it in as a certainty. Thus his trade value would have to be his BTV (Base Trade Value) + RDV (Recapture Damage Value). So if you had a top 2 defenseman at a 4 million a year cap hit, and trading him also meant a 10 million dollar hole blown square in the middle of your roster down the road when you planned to be competitive, how much would you want back for him to make it worth it?

Hencefrom GMBM will be known as GMDP, aka GM Dick Puppet
