It's too early to say but it seems to be under the assumption that the players won't invoke the 5% escalator. There's some reason to believe that maybe they won't this time since it would ease escrow withholdings but every year they've done it so as to not stiff pending free agents.

I'm not sure Ribeiro's even a center anymore, at least on any competitive team. He gets overwhelmingly easy zone starts and is softer than ever. He's another player the game is passing by.

This year is the best year for the players to NOT invoke the escrow right?

There are basically 20+ new job openings anyhow with Vegas coming in.
http://www.russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2014/11/14/mike-ribeiro-shreds-capitals-en-francais-ovechkin-is-part-of-the-problem/

Meh. It's not really that bad. I mean he did say the words "Ovechkin is part of the problem" but he doesn't really elaborate or say anything substantial.

Regardless of that, pass on Ribeiro.

Still no need to spout that stuff. Especially after Ovie praised him earlier in the offseason.

Also Ribs decided to take veiled shots at our goalies earlier in that article.

This guy has had a habit of doing dumb stuff and running his mouth off. He got ran out of Montreal because he and Koivu didn't get along and from what I heard Koivu was one of the most respected players around the league.

Lets not forget all the unsportsman-like penalties he delivered to us. Just endlessly runs his mouth

I see Las Vegas as high risk situation for Ribeiro's off-ice concerns. I'd assume teams in much less cosmopolitan cities would be a safer fit.

I wouldn't be so quick to label Ribeiro's off-ice thing as tabloid journalism, either. Those were credible news sources quoting an actual complaint that went in to pretty graphic detail. It's certainly only one side of the story, but the timing, details, and fact that they settled it out of court make it seem at least plausible.

The main argument against is that it was civil and not criminal, but when you read the actual complaint, you can see how it'd be near impossible to prove in criminal court, as many sexual assault cases are. Given the nature of the allegations and the age of the girl -- as potentially unfair as it may be if he's innocent -- I wouldn't want that crap anywhere near my club.

A guy with Ribeiro's talent wouldn't bounce around the league so much if his attitude and off-ice issues weren't troubling. I don't care if he were younger and still wildly productive. I wouldn't want him here.

Hope we give Vrana a chance in the top 9, still don't have a back up for the top 9.

Excuse me for off-topic but want opinions on why Boyd has never received a call up so far? He's 2 years pro and both of those seasons he's one of the best Bears' forwards.

Williams in tomorrow vs Montreal.

Same reason as Bourque, really good AHL player doesn't equate to NHL 4th liner material.

Why would he be only a 4th line material? It might be significantly more than that. He has not even had his chance to showcase what he's got to bring on a big stage. Even Bourque had.

but where would he play? you really shouldnt break up that 3rd line

We're talking a lot about who to (try to) keep in the offseason, who might be taken by Vegas, who to protect, etc. There's so many variables here that it's hard to get a real handle on any of it.

So out of curiosity, I'm wondering what you guys think our RFAs will get. Regardless of where they end up playing, what do you think these guys get paid next year?

Kuznetsov (currently $3,000,000)
Burakovsky (currently $894,167)
Connolly (currently $850,000)
Orlov (currently $2,570,000)
Schmidt (currently $812,500)
Grubauer (currently $750,000)

And yet he keeps getting a job. Presumably in places that also have similar temptations, maybe fewer casinos.

My wild guesses with no real research:

Kuznetsov: $7 million
Burakovsky: $3 million
Connolly: $1.5 million
Orlov: $4 million
Schmidt: $1.5 million
Grubauer: $2 million

Kuznetsov (currently $3,000,000)......7 years $6.5
Burakovsky (currently $894,167).......2 years $3.0 bridge like Kuznetsov
Connolly (currently $850,000)...........2 years $1.5 max
Orlov (currently $2,570,000).............5 years $4.75
Schmidt (currently $812,500)............2 years $1.5
Grubauer (currently $750,000)...........2 years $2 doubt he wants that role though

Ribeiro seems too questionable, but if the Caps go shopping for general forward depth, might as well get a center. With wheels, preferably.

Oh god that's terrifying, you're talking about a defense men who doesn't PK and is just playing around 19 minutes a game next to our #1 defense men.

The goof from CSN that left for NHL.com was on NHLN tonight saying that Mike Green might be traded. Too bad he is not a pending ufa.

Just for fun if we did claim ribs and made him a wing where could he play?

Ov back Oshie
Mojo Kuz JW
Ribs/Connolly Eller bura
Winnik beagle Wilson

For giving up nothing for him he's a nice insurance policy if someone in the top 9 goes down

Better option then trading a 1st for a vancek rental

Can only imagine how terrifying Ovi's contract is to you -- after all, dude doesn't PK and is just playing around 19 minutes a game next to our #1 center mEn.

I've read a lot of crazy things on these boards but this takes the cake.
