Nielsen throws a hip check on Shane Wright, contact is hip on hip, and receives a tripping penalty call.

AKL somehow takes a high sticking call even though it was the butt end of Silov's stick.

Another phantom call, this time Kannok Leipert for high sticking, and the Firebirds will get a 5 on 3. Coach Bylsma takes a timeout.

Update: The call is officially a high sticking call on Silovs, Raty is in the box to serve.

Still wasn't a high stick.

Firebirds score on the 5-3 to make it 3-2

Tonight was a repeat of last night's score: Coachella 4, Abbotsford 2. Abby led 2-1 after the first, then were outshot 18-1 and outscored 3-0 in the second.

Boards mics kept picking up the Coachella players calmly telling the Abbotsford bench "this is not the win you want" over and over for some reason.

Starting to re-evaluate whether we actually got positive value for Stillman or whether Buffalo smartly dumped a bad ELC.

Bloom looked really good in either his 1st or 2nd game and has just been totally ineffective since.

Did you know Kalamazoo is a real city! I always figured it was some fictional land in Narnia but it actually exists. You can go there.

I had this happen with Cheesecake Factory which I thought was just a fake restaurant from Big Bang Theory like Big Kahuna Burger or whatever and then mind=blown on a trip to Seattle about 10 years ago.

Usually that's a decent barometer for these things, honestly.

Size/skating also looked good in video clips. Problem is that so far the 3-zone motor simply isn't there at this level. Such a *massive* difference between being a good defensive player in the CHL - which was Bloom's rep - and replicating that in pro.

Bloom's issue is he also skates with his head down wayyyyyyy too much to be an effective pro player. A bizarre amount of odd-man rushes against because he skated himself into trouble, or quite literally into his own teammate.

Hard to get reps on the 4th line that way

Clearly Bloom is not ready for this level of hockey. Problem is that there did not seem any area were he was particularly good so you can't say if he works on some other areas, he could come around. In other words, he needs to develop considerably in every area.

Really has't looked like anything much from the Summer camp onwards. Maybe if he can pack on some wieght he can play the physical game he did in Junior.

Stillman trade still a positive since they got rid of his salary and Stillman has shown again he is not an NHL or even that good of an AHL defenseman this season.

I’ve only been to two US cities east of the Mississippi and one of them, oddly enough, was Kalamazoo and it wasn’t really by choice.
Main thing I remember about it was it was a Friday and there was some sort of Monster Truck extravaganza going on that weekend and there were all sorts of interesting examples of humanity milling about. Likely the same sort of crowd you’d see these days at a Trump rally.

Had to step out so I didn't see the goal but the Canucks have tied the game on Marc Gatcomb's 4th of the year. McDonough drew an assist on the goal.

1-1.

1st period ends 1-1. Shots: 13-11 Coachella Valley.

The Firebirds will have 39 seconds of PP time carrying over to start the 2nd period.
