They are a better team when their goaltenders play out of their minds (Vancouver, Philly, NYR, Pitt)

When the goaltending is average, you get very similar results (game 7s against mediocre Southeastern teams Tampa, Carolina, Washington), 3-0 collapses, game 7s against mediocre Northeast teams (Montreal x 2, Toronto)

This is the concept people SHOULD see, Fighting is what they want to see. It's boring to be the Great Goaltending Bruins. Doesn't sound good in bar arguments or on Twitter.

I could have been in net against Vancouver and the result would have been the same. Not saying Thomas didn't play out of his mind, but in _that_ series they didn't need him to.

I'm sure because that was such a cakewalk...:shakehead

oh, wait, it went 7 games and the Bruins were actually down 2-0 before coming back...and the Canucks scored a total of 8 goals in 7 games.

You must be a helluva goalie.

the games they won they scored 8,4,5,and 4. The games they lost they score 0,2 and 0. So and average NHL goalie still wins games 3,4,6,7 and whatever deity you want still loses 1,4,5.

Again, Thomas was otherworldly that series, and obviously if you switch out the goalie EVERYTHING about a game changes, if the Canucks put one in after Horty gets taken out of game 3 the B's may have gotten swept. But the way things went Thomas was almost redundant in the wins and even his best couldn't stop the loses.

What's wrong with eliminating useless plugs that skate for less than 5 min per game in favor of more versatile guys that can scrap a little, but also play hockey.

I don't see any scenario where that is a bad thing.

I don't believe that's the argument at hand when discussing overall numbers in fights and how "hockey is going away from that stuff."

No problem with eliminating the plugs, but that doesn't mean that fighting has to be on the downslope.

If you eliminate the plugs and the "staged" fights, there will be a lot less fighting, but what remains will be a far better product and a truer "part of the game".

Completely agree... That doesn't mean we shouldn't have guys that can respond when someone is running around. The John Scott's have no place in todays game.

anybody know when bobby ryan will get a look?

i'm not concerned that i didn't see fighting. who really cares in a game like this. i'm concerned that the canadiens were dominating the bruins for most of the game. playing tougher playing bigger etc. yeah yeah preseason whatever

yes, these aren't the final lines but it's concerning that the habs were able to play harder than any set of bruins. also, even when bruins were ahead they were spending a lot of time in their own zone.

Apparently they do have a place...Scott will make $700l playing for the Sharks this year. Here's the GM on Scott...

"John brings a physical, no-nonsense element to our lineup," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement. "As we integrate more younger players to our team, John's presence alone can act as a deterrent and help keep teams and opposing players honest."

His presence will act as a deterrent...while his lack of talent will act as a liability. Waste of good bench space. Is it any wonder why the Sharks never do anything in the playoffs?

He doesn't realize that teams can ignore him like the Bruins did, save Big Mac who flipped him over..

Yet John Scott was just signed by a contending team in San Jose.

Not saying I want Scott, but a good fighter that can play 10 minutes a night is desperately needed. He doesn't have to put up 25-30 points just play physical, play good D and know when to fight. Hopefully Robins or Randell will have the chance to fill that role this year, both of whom can play as skillfully as Jordan Caron and produce as much as Villie Leino did last year.

lol glad to see you are in mid-season Krejci-hating form.

Apparently getting body checked is the same as playing awful defense. I had no idea.

Awesome awareness on his part.

And I'm still in post season Krejci hating form.

PS. I already traded him in NHL15

He certainly didn't deter Justin Johnson from KOing him into another timezone..

That's what I mean, those guys can both play hockey. I can't stand the guys that go out there looking for a fight every shift, what's the point? If the game is getting chippy and you decide to fight out of emotion or as a response to a cheap hit, that's great and should be kept in the game.

This is the per-season, wait 'til the season starts and nothing has changed. Claude has the Bruins playing a no panic, control the puck system. Then they wake up and it's too late. Has always been like this for me.

Bruins took the lead only because Montreal was trying to hit everything that moved. When they stopped they took over.
