Meh, I pretty much lost interest in Bond films after Goldfinger. It was all downhill after that. I don’t care who is playing 007, it’s still just the same movie over and over again.

Casino Royale was a very very good movie.
It was a good film, but not a good Bond film. Craig, while a fine actor, misses the mark on Bond. He was too angry and brooding for my taste. Connery is still the only actor to have the right blend of daring, bad ass, lust and humor in his performance.

I liked Goldeneye of the Brosnan ones but admittedly the other three were pretty lacking imo even though I’ll watch them. Like I said a few pages back I haven’t even seen a Daniel Craig one to this point.

I thought Craig was closest to the book Bond, who is colder and more sinister.

Tomorrow is my dog's 5th birthday.

Friday night i'm throwing him a birthday party. 50 people on the list, hired a bouncer, the whole eight planets.

So, if you guys don't hear from me after Friday it's because i went too hard on at his party and died from alcohol poisoning

I've never read the books but that's what I've always heard regarding the book version of Bond: he's much more thuggish then debonnaire.

Ive read the first 3 and im on the 4th now.

I wouldnt call him thuggish at all.

He is a man of fine taste (food, alcohol, clothing, cars, etc) without being obnoxious or pretentious. Hes witty and at times arrogant. A dark sense of humor for sure. Craig is actually pretty close to the book Bond in my opinion, though book Bond is not nearly as brooding.

Fleming described his appearance in the 1st book as similar to Hoagy Carmichael.

What I like about Connery is that while he has his flippant, lighthearted moments, his Bond also has those sinister, cold blooded moments. Shrugging of deaths, killing people, etc. Later Bonds veer into slapstick and emotional attachments.

Craig is the same way. Introducing the character by having him coldly drown a dude in a sink was on point. Something I think Connery, Craig, and Book Bond (per my memory, which is getting quite old now) share is that those Bond versions could be nice and charming to someone and then kill them with their bare hands a moment later if need be without a second thought.

I wholeheartedly agree. This why Connery is my favorite Bond closely followed by Craig.

I really wish that when they reboot it eventually that they would do faithful adaptations of the books in chronological order.

Some of the book adaptations are just awful, like Moonraker for example. They had to appeal to 60s era audiences so I get it. The Moonraker book is incredible and would make for a badass movie if they adapted it faithfully.

I think Moonraker came out after Star Wars, so it's easy to see what they were trying to do with that weirdness.

I think, in short, it might be distilled to this: Book/Connery/Craig Bonds have a circle of people they trust and are attached to that is maybe 3-4 people large. The rest of the world consists of people to be used in order to complete the mission, or killed if they're in the way.

Moore and Brosnan don't really convey that. Moore in particular. But this is why I get to have my pet canon about there having been numerous James Bonds over the years. If each version were identical it's less interesting.

Are the books public domain yet?

This is why I haven’t watched a Batman movie since the Keaton/Nicholson one.

I dont necessarily have a problem with remakes taking different races, genders, etc. As @Magua mentioned, the Hermione in Cursed child is african american, and I was perfectly ok with that. I mean, visually would i prefer to see Emma Watson? sure. but from a character standpoint? Inconsequential. My issue is when they take a story and bend it to fit a current agenda. I'll add a spoiler here in case someone hasnt seen it yet but wants to:

Speaking of Cursed Child, just saw both parts on Saturday in NY. What an incredibly fun experience. I'm a big Potter Head to begin with, but I didn't even need the story or the acting. The "stage magic", choreography, and effects were worth every penny and the 5 hours of my time.

That being said, the person I went with didn't know Hermione was going to be African American. She thought it was weird that all of the other characters matched very closely to their movie counter part and Hermione was the only one with a big difference. Like you said though, it isn't like it was done for any reason to fit an agenda.

I'm all for "race blind" casting for roles that don't call for a specific race for the character. JK Rowling never describe Hermione as being white, so she might be a person of color. Hamilton is phenomenal and has race blind casting all over the place. I'm going to see Dear Evan Hansen, for the second time, next week. It is the last week that the current actor is playing Evan and the following week he is being replaced by an African American actor. His mom will still be played by a white actor and although that isn't really an issue, my brain would be annoyed because science.
