Maybe the problem wasn't Lappy?
Maybe they just needed goalies who made big plays?

Sure, goaltending was a big part of it, but we have also seen the benefit of returning to an aggressive puck-pursuit system. Allowing the trigger man to drift practically to the faceoff dot and look for an easy cross-crease pass or fire a high-danger shot was not doing anyone any favours.

The problem is, other than a much higher save% on high danger chances, the numbers show no difference on the PK.
And since that s% is on dangerous shots, it doesn't reflect any change that reduces dangerous shots.

Hakstol (first 31 games):
5x5: CF 51.25, GF/GA 2.66/2.78, SCF/CA 25.0/23.9, Sv% 83.94%, HDCF/CA 11.2/9.8, Sv% 81.72
PP: CF 86.54, GF/GA 4.22/2.11, SCF/CA 48.6/8.5, Sh% 10.11%, HDCF/CA 25.4/4.9, Sh% 14.81
PK: CF 17.48, GF/GA 1.06/9.57, SCF/CA 7.4/45.4, Sv% 75.78%, HDCF/CA 3.9/20.9, Sv% 70.00

Gordon's hot streak (26 games since 1/10/19):
5x5: CF 45.53, GF/GA 2.95/2.61, SCF/CA 24.3/28.8, Sv% 87.33%, HDCF/CA 10.1/11.3, Sv% 85.79
PP: CF 84.05, GF/GA 7.94/0.93, SCF/CA 46.7/6.5, Sh% 13.33%, HDCF/CA 22.9/1.9, Sh% 20.51
PK: CF 11.90, GF/GA 0.54/5.37, SCF/CA 7.0/48.9, Sv% 86.00%, HDCF/CA 2.7/20.4, Sv% 92.31

When the numbers say one thing, and group think says something else, go with the numbers.

If the new PK gives up scoring chances at the same rate as the old PK, what exactly has been accomplished?

Hart should play this game with Talbot as the backup. That way Elliott gets 2 days off between games for the b2b.

And then on Friday, start Elliott with Talbot as the backup.

This allows us a fresh starter for both games....and whoever plays the best between them, gets Sunday's game.

What you don't want, is Hart to start on Thursday, get pulled, and have Elliott as the backup. You are then left with 3 bad options for Friday.

Talbot should be the backup both games so that if someone gets pulled, you have a fresh goalie to play.
What if Hart gets hurt in a close game? Not smart to dress your 3rd best goalie in games like these.

Gordon doesn’t have to pull Hart for performance reasons. It would suck if he got shelled but he’ll be alright.

Questions for the day:

Can they keep this run up and get into the playoffs?
Will Jake win his appeal and be available Thursday?
Will Mimsy ever realize that Hagg sucks?
Is Michael Neuvirth still alive?
Is 8:40am too early to start drinking?
No- sorry to be a pessimist, but it just looks too bleak. I really hope they do, but I won’t get my hopes up.

He should, but probably not. Because... you know... George Parros took too punches to the head which dulled his already small brain.

No...

Michael Neuvirth is currently living in the Seinfeldian bubble boy’s bubble. He will be safe there.

Yes, it’s appropriate

Still need someone here to tell us how much these games matter :(

I feel somewhat safe to speak on the Cap'n's behalf to say that this game is so astronomically big that astrophysicists are unequipped to measure it.

To which he would add **** Hakstol.

Nothing ground breaking, but at least a semi interesting tidbit with Brian Lawton talking to Chris Pryor.

Thursday is my birthday, heading down to the game. Hoping expectations are correct that Hart starts, I missed him in the lone game I attended this season. Also hoping they don’t get steamrolled again haha
