Lybushkin is hot garbage above the bottom pairing. He’s mediocre on it. The vast majority of NHL defensemen never belong anywhere near a top pairing. Mintyukov‘s play falls off when he gets top pairing minutes and responsibilities. LaCombe not doing well on the top pairing =/= LaCombe will never be an NHL defenseman.

LaCombe goes up and down the pairings because he’s the one getting thrown to wolves instead of being allowed to be stapled to a veteran on a pairing where he belongs.

Away from the top pairing, LaCombe is mostly positive in the expected goal differential (xGD). In a more appropriate role with Gudas, LaCombe fares well.

Previously in this season I've seen another putrid game, but this takes the cake. I repeat, even in the darkest of the dark days of this franchise, I've never seen a more pathetic game execution than this.

What do you expect? Rookie GM hires a rookie coach and its a gongshow.
