Yeah the system in place is fine where repeat offenders get longer and longer suspensions the more they get in trouble. Not sure why it's not being used to curb the actions of players like Wilson.

What are the chances Caps are protecting the guy?:whatever:
That's on the NHLPA and the NHL...They agreed in the CBA to wipe offenses off their records after a certain time so they aren't treated as "repeat offenders". So Wilson was not considered a "repeat" offender I guess.

Because Washington is a more powerful team than others.
WSH is one of the "protected" teams, by the league.
And so they follow a different rulebook.
Sorry but I cannot imagine any other possible answer...

And you act like this happened in a vacuum and this was someone of equal physical attributes looking to fight rather than chill the instigator out after they took liberties that violated the code with their teammate.

Wilson removes Panarin's helmet, knows it's 170lb Panarin and THEN slams him head first into the ice narrowly avoiding a catastrophic injury. There's a world of difference between two folks of equal roles/size doing this in a straight up manner and what Wilson did with Panarin. If you're the biggest "toughest" guy on the ice, you have a responsibility to enforce the code, not violate it and then violate it some more.

The worst part is the protection Wilson gets from officiating when someone his size and with his fighting abilities or greater challenges him.

Why is it Wilson's responsibility to only engage with certain players and not anyone that's in a scrum with him? Panarin wanted to act like a tough guy jumping on Wilson's back and messing with him, it's not Wilson's job to dismiss him and go find someone closer to his size.

What protection does Wilson get? He's willing to fight almost anyone and anytime. Just like you say Wilson shouldn't go with Panarin, Wilson also shouldn't have to go with some no name scrub. But Wilson does go with those players on occasion when he feels like it, but he's a good player and is needed on the ice more. Glad you bring up the officials, the ref was standing there leaning against the net watching the situation, he didn't try to step in once blame him for that more than Wilson.

The league should want to protect Panarin, a Hart finalist too.

Answer: The Code.

What Wilson did violates that code. Don't take my word for it. Any enforcer will tell you that. John Scott was pretty spot on in his assessment of the gutless behavior of Wilson.

Players who aren’t psychopaths don’t sucker punch prone opponents or feel the need to body slam guys 60 lbs lighter than them who are just trying to stop the cheapshotting by pulling them off/grabbing them.

Youre 100% wrong here.
