Hutton had an iffy game today. Too many times he got caught trying to move the puck out his zone. Luckily the Flyers are ass and could not capitalize.

Man, I gotta disagree. I thought Hutton survived some serious Flyer forecheck and kept the play alive in the neutral zone with skill and smarts a number of times tonight.

he had some iffy moments for sure, but not what you wouldn't expect from a rookie. Thought he did more good than bad, should really be moved to the first unit over Edler.(power play)

Highest goal differential in the west. LA has to win their next game to overtake the Canucks on ROW, so they are legitimately in first place (or tied, if you are a glass-half-full person).

It's so good to finally watch some young guns in the line-up.

That one steal center ice then skating the puck in was absolutely magnificent.

Vancouver. Duh.
Really hope Sven can continue to improve. He is going to get benched if he doesn't get better fast with Higgins coming back soon.

Yeah Baertschi was not good, he is ok when he can skate the puck out of his zone but then most of the time he is really an adventure in the dzone.

It looks like Sven really took being a healthy scratch to heart. His play was a lot better tonight, he had a strong forecheck, a few really good passes, the one to Hansen halfway through the 3rd comes to mind. If it had been to someone like Vrbata or Horvat, I think it would have been in the back of the net.

Canucks played well at times, and choppy at times, but never very badly. The Flyers had plenty of decent chances, which Miller fought through with his team to keep the lead, causing the Flyers to fail to gain any sort of momentum. As a whole, there are a lot of things that could have gone better, but I think that's what happens when you start playing more players who suit the rush rather than the cycle.

Sedin Line
A bit of an off night; their passes weren't connecting and the cycle was having a difficult time becoming established. But as we all know, even on their off nights, these guys are capable of generating chances here and there.

Sutter... no... VIRTANEN Line
This line's greatest asset seems to be a sort of combination of speed, grit, and defensive awareness; this amalgamates into a line that excels at moving the puck up the ice. Virtanen seems best suited to the rush, as evidenced by his first NHL goal!

Horvat Line
This line is an interesting mix, and it certainly clicked tonight. Horvat and Hansen are great defensively, and all three are more than capable in the offensive zone. That's right, I'm including Baerts in this note, as he played his best game of the season tonight. This is what we want to see.

McCann Line
As much as this line seemed to cough up the puck in situations where they would be generating chances, the great thing about it is that this is a 4th line that is putting itself in that position - and it is by no means being sheltered, either. All three players are all over the ice, turning the opposition around and moving the play forward. I think if Cracknell hadn't sat so many games, he would have an even better feel of what to do with the puck with regards to McCann being on his line. McCann didn't have the greatest night offensively, but he looked good on the defensive side of the puck, which is also great to see.

Edler - Tanev
Did a stellar job keeping the puck on the walls in the defensive zone. Really limited the chances for the Flyers, allowing Miller to make those key stops for us without too much concern.

Hamhuis - Bartkowski
It may be the Hamhuis factor, but Bart had a decent game tonight. One misplay on the goal against, but otherwise solid. Hamhuis seemed a bit slow, but still steady as always.

Hutton - Weber
A few miscues, but that's what happens when the lines get a bit shuffled. This is a pretty quick defensive pairing, which I can see being a bit of a problem for opposition who are trying to create a bit of time and space for themselves. Hutton is a very aggressive defender, which is refreshing to see that he has the skill to back it up. Weber made a really nice offensive play, and Hutton grabs an assist.

Miller
Earing that $6m to start this season. Not much more to say than that. He's been great for us.

i think hamhuis has really lost his legs over the past year and a half.

i really think they'll trade him at the deadline because i don't see fit in re-signing him for more than 2 years, and he'll probably want more.

We don't need Hamhuis for his legs, we need Hamhuis for his reliability and ability to shelter his partner and that seems to be still around.

If the kids can keep on producing, then Hamhuis absolutely sticks around.

That was a FUN game to watch...

Favorite moment of the game: Burrows reaction to Virtanen's goal. AMAZING moment... Warming.. Showed a lot about the kind guy Alex is... Add that to the everything we already know about the guy, including his role in initiating Jake and Jared... And man... This guy is an All-Time heart n souler.

Hutton was the one recovering most of those plays after making the mistake. Miller helped him on a couple, but it's nice that he doesn't need a babysitter to cover for those mistakes like Sbisa/Bart.

Much better third but if you switch goaltenders Canucks probably lose.

The Good

Miller - continues his outstanding season.

Virtanen - showed off how dangerous he is tonight. Should be a real consideration for 3 on 3 OT. Gets some open ice and he is simply gone. Might be the fastest player on the team.

Horvat - best game of the year. Line finally showing something.

Tanev - Edler - starting to put some plays together. Getting better as a combo and trying different stuff.

Bartkowski - much better effort. Had some challenging times in his own end but not so much on the back foot in this one.

Hutton - extremely smart with the puck. Given his experience his reaction time to situations is surprising. Looks better here than he did in college.

Burrows - one solid game after another.

Others

Hansen - nice deke on the first goal but seemed to louse up a number of other opportunities

McCann - too bad on the empty net but is developing a better overall game. Thought he was better in the neutral zone and in his own end. That will be key to how much he can contribute this season

Baertschi - needs to win more board battles and quicken up his puck movement. Lags at times and seems to tire easily. Hopefully the team can work on conditioning and increase the tempo of Baertschi's game. Remains a border line contributor.

Sedins had a brutal start and lucky not to get scored on in the first. Played better as the Flyers seemed to tire.

Thanks all those overtime lost.
