Who is exactly a 3rd line center?
Thankfully, he is still very young and most of the times he played center was to replace Matthews and in this situation all we're asking him to do is to play center behind Matthews against weaker competition, which should work out just fine.We saw it at times this year it failed
why?
Matthews
Tavares
Kadri
I think Brandon Sutter for Mitch Marner would be beneficial for both teams.

Aren't you the guy that wants to put everything into the Canucks D
I think they end up starting the year with Matthews Nylander Kadri Plug.
They had alot of options on wing.
Keep Plekanec?
Maybe though I am not sure Plek is ready to classify himself as a 4th liner yet. Itd be a pay and minutes cut.
From all the media he did it seemed like both sides felt it was a temporary arrangement. He could sign back with Montreal.

I could see Thornton, Plekanec won't be back.Toronto is probably going to sign Thornton to a 1yr deal.
Marleau is there. Another mentor for the young guys. A bigger boost to the power play.
Looking for a center for a 1yr deal would be good for he financial side when other key guys get raises.
Hyman Matthews Nylander
Marleau Thornton Marner
Johnsson Kadri Brown
Leivo Plekanec Kapanen
Martin
Thornton - 1yr 6-8mill
Plekanec - 1yr 2.5-3mill
Sutter is first-line center for him, if you look at his forward lineup in his "all for defensemen" thread.
Only for one year while the Canucks continue their rebuild process (in that hypothetical). In the Summer of 2019 after Edler comes off the books (along with half of that forward roster), the Canucks could then go hard after the high ticket UFA forwards.
That was the rationale behind my idea, but hey, if you think that
1) That forward group that I had listed was something that I would have liked to have kept on a long term basis as opposed to a short term stop gap.
2) I genuinely believe that Sutter is worth Mariner and that my commments weren’t tongue in cheek
Then more power to you I guess.
Ryan Strome for Leafs 1st
Plekenac hasnt been a 3C since 2016.If Leafs ever plan of using Nylander at Center, now is the time. Beyond that why not try resign Plekanic
