1999-2004:

October 15, 1999 -- Jody Hull was dealt to Philadelphia in a cash transaction. Hull was selected by Atlanta from the Flyers in the expansion draft but did not make the Thrashers' roster and was assigned to Orlando.
December 23, 1999 -- The Flyers blew two 3-goal leads and finished in a 4-4 tie at home in the first meeting between the franchises. Mikael Andersson scored 1:54 into the game then Mikael Renberg made it 2-0 at the 3:40 mark. Atlanta pulled Norm Maracle for Scott Fankhouser who made 36 stops on 38 shots in his NHL debut. Atlanta scored three times in the second period. Nelson Emerson scored the only goal in the third period. Kelly Buchberger had a game-high three points. Philly outshot Atlanta 42-29 including 5-0 in overtime with the best chance being Eric Desjardins' breakaway attempt that hit the post.
January 14, 2000 -- Norm Maracle made 26 saves and Dean Sylvester scored 2:57 into the third period in Atlanta's 1-0 home win, the first time the teams met in Philips Arena. Eric Lindros was elbowed in the head by Darryl Shannon and suffered a Grade 2 concussion, his third concussion, which sidelined him the next four games. Lindros was also nursing a hand injury suffered four weeks prior to this game and which affected his play. The Flyers entered the night with a 7-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1). The Thrashers sold standing-room seats for the first time and had a paid crowd of 18,571.
April 4, 2000 -- Brian Boucher made 22 saves and the Flyers never trailed after Valeri Zelepukin (1-1-2) scored 1:50 into the game en route to a 5-3 win at Atlanta. Andy Delmore (1-1-2), Craig Berube (1-1-2) and Daymond Langkow also had two points. Simon Gagne's breakaway goal, his 20th of the season, with 1:35 to play sealed the win. Gagne became the first Flyers' rookie to reach 20 goals since Mikael Renberg in 1993-94.
April 6, 2000 -- John Vanbiesbrouck made 20 stops in Philly's 3-1 home win. Daymond Langkow scored the GWG midway through the second period. Atlanta was held to two shots in the first period and nine through 40 minutes. Mark Recchi, who picked up his 61st and 62nd assists of the season (he led the League that season with 63), was awarded the Bobby Clarke Trophy representative of team MVP prior to the game.
November 17, 2000 Dan McGillis' blast with 61 seconds left in OT gave Philly a 3-2 win in Atlanta. McGillis said "He (Roman Cechmanek) told us we could beat him (Milan Hnilicka) with the long shot. He gave me his weaknesses." Cechmanek made 25 saves and Mark Recchi (1-2-3) factored in each goal. Recchi's goal was a short-handed breakaway. January 5, 2001 -- The Flyers set a team-record for quickest 3-0 lead, at the 2:19 mark, which led to an Atlanta goalie switch from Damian Rhodes (0 saves, 3 shots) to Milan Hnilicka (18 saves, 20 shots), and held on for a 6-4 road win. The lead increased to 5-0 in the second period and was 5-1 through two periods. The Thrashers got within 5-4 with 6:51 left in the third period. Mark Recchi (1-3-4), Ruslan Fedotenko (1-2-3) and Keith Primeau (2-0-2) led the offense and Roman Cechmanek made 25 saves for the Flyers. Donald Audette (1-2-3) and Ray Ferraro (0-3-3) led Atlanta. January 6, 2001 -- Keith Primeau scored his 200th N.H.L. goal with 7:36 left in the third period to give the Flyers a 2-2 tie in Philly. Steve Staois and Denny Lambert gave the Thrashers a 2-0 lead. Simon Gagne got the Flyers on the board with 8:19 left in the second period. Damian Rhodes made 35 saves for Atlanta. Philly held a 39-20 shot advantage but Atlanta lead 2-1 through two periods despite being outshot 19-7.
February 17, 2001 -- Roman Cechmanek made 28 saves and the Flyers had four third period goals in a 5-1 home win. Simon Gagne (2-1-3), Chris Therien (1-1-2), Mark Recchi (1-1-2) and Rick Tocchet (0-2-2) led the offense. The game was scoreless until Gagne scored with under six to play in the second period. The Flyers killed eight of nine Atlanta PPs.
October 16, 2001 -- John LeClair's (2-0-2) second goal came with 3:15 left in regulation and the teams played to a 3-3 OT tie at Atlanta. Damian Rhodes was chosen top star with 34 saves. Roman Cechmanek made 28 saves for Philly. Atlanta had three one-goal leads. Ilya Kovalchuk snapped s scoreless tie with 1:22 left in the second period. Five of the six goals came in the third period.
December 10, 2001 -- Jeremy Roenick scored a PPG with 10 minutes left in the third period and Keith Primeau added an insurance goal in Philly's 3-1 win at Atlanta. Simon Gagne (1-1-2) and Roenick (1-1-2) each had two points. Roman Cechmanek made 14 saves. The Flyers outshot Atlanta 29-15. Eric Desjardins suffered a broken thumb and did not return until January 8 against the Thrashers.
January 8, 2002 -- Jiri Dopita (4-1-5) tied a team-record with four goals in the Flyers' 7-4 home win. Dopita, whose last three goals formed a natural hat trick, had just four shots on goal. Dopita scored twice against both Milan Hnilicka (8 saves, 12 shots) and Damian Rhodes (19 saves, 22 shots). Justin Williams (1-2-3), John LeClair (1-2-3) and Eric Weinrich (0-2-2, +5) also contributed to the win. Brian Boucher made 22 saves. Ilya Kovalchuk scored twice.
January 17, 2002 -- The Flyers out-scored Atlanta 4-0 in the third period en route to a 6-3 victory in Philly. Justin Williams and John LeClair scored within 32 second in the first 2:02 of the third period which gave Philly a 4-3 lead. Mark Recchi, Williams and LeClair each had a goal and an assist. Ilya Kovalchuk scored with 8 seconds left in the first period then Yannick Tremblay made it 2-0 in the opening minute of the second period. Recchi and Chris Therien scored but Jeff Odgers gave Atlanta a 3-2 lead through two periods. Philly held a 27-22 shots advantage including 23-11 over the last two periods. Roman Cechmanek made 19 saves. Dan McGillis had ten hits. The Flyers finished the night as the top team in the Eastern Conference with 62 points while the Thrashers owned the worst record in the NHL with 31 points.
December 18, 2002 -- Robert Esche stopped 23 of 24 shots including a brilliant 15-for-15 in the third period and the Flyers scored in each period of a 3-1 win in Atlanta. In the first period, the Flyers held a 13-3 shot advantage yet the score was tied 1-1. Justin Williams (1-1-2) had two points. Mark Recchi scored the GWG in the second period. Donald Brashear added the insurance tally in the third. Brashear said of his goal "I just saw an opportunity to go around the defenseman, the puck got through him and I just dove. Anytime I make a move like that it surprises me. I always know what I want to do ... I just don't always succeed.'' In the last period, Atlanta held a 15-2 shot advantage but the Flyers got the only goal. Eric Desjardins became the 185th NHL player to appear in 1,000 regular season games.
January 5, 2003 -- Mark Recchi (2-0-2) scored with 5:31 to play and the Flyers extended their unbeaten streak against Atlanta to 12 games (10-0-2) with a 5-4 road win. Recchi's goal 11:11 into the third period gave the Flyers a 4-3 lead. Dennis Seidenberg (1-2-3) and Radovan Somik scored 18 seconds apart late in the second period, with Michael Handzus (0-2-2) assisting on both, to give Philly a 3-2 lead. Philly outshot the Thrashers 40-22.
January 13, 2003 -- Dany Heatley registered his first NHL hat trick, Marc Savard added (1-2-3) three points and Atlanta snapped the Flyers 6-game win streak with a 7-4 victory in Philadelphia. The Thrashers also ended a 12-game winless skid (0-10-2) in this series. Four goalies surrendered goals. Atlanta goaltender Byron Dafoe left the game with a groin injury with 2:55 left in the second period after stopping 24 of 27 shots and Pasi Nurminen gave up one goal on 15 shots; the duo stopped 20 of 21 shots in the second period. Philadelphia goaltender Robert Esche was replaced by Roman Cechmanek with 5:33 left in the period after allowing three goals on five shots.
March 24, 2003 -- Michal Handzus had two goals, including the GWG with 24 seconds left in the second period, in Philly's 6-2 home win. Tony Amonte (1-1-2), Handzus and Kim Johnsson scored in a span of 1:36 to give Philly a 6-2 lead early in the third period. Donald Brashear (0-2-2) was named the game's third star as he assisted on the tying and insurance goals. Robert Esche made 16 saves. The Flyers doubled Atlanta 36-18 in shots. Milan Hnilicka stopped 30 shots for Atlanta.
November 15, 2003 -- Jeff Hackett made 24 saves and recorded the 26th shutout of his career and Sami Kapanen (1-1-2) snapped a scoreless tie 1:14 into the third period to lead the Flyers to a 4-0 win in Philadelphia. The Flyers scored four third period goals off Byron Dafoe who made 31 saves.
December 21, 2003 -- Ronald Petrovicky scored twice and Byron Dafoe made 25 saves in Atlanta's 4-1 home win. Jim Vandermeer, on his fifth callup from the AHL that season, was a -4 and demoted after the next game. Vandermeer beat Petrovicky in fight during the first period.
February 5, 2004 -- Antero Niittymaki had 20 saves in the second start of his NHL career in the Flyers' 5-1 win in Atlanta. The Flyers scored four times in the second period including goals by Mark Recchi (1-1-2) and Sami Kapanen 32 seconds apart. February 21, 2004 -- Simon Gagne's successful penalty shot with 1:01 remaining in the third period lifted the Flyers to a 5-4 home win. Gagne was awarded a penalty shot after Andy Sutton shot a loose stick on the ice toward him. Alexei Zhamnov, playing his first game with the Flyers, waited for the officials to review the play thinking he could take the shot; however, Gagne was required to take it because the loose stick came at him. Joni Pitkanen (2-1-3) had three points and Sean Burke made 32 saves. The Flyers went 4-for-5 on PPs. Ronald Petrovicky was given a five-minute major midway through the first period for charging Mattias Timander into the boards and the Flyers scored three times, the third time in team history the team has scored three goals on the same five-minute power play. The three goals, including two by Pitkanen (he assisted on the other), came in a span of 2:42. Atlanta tied the game with three goals in the second period and then after Philly made it 4-3, the Thrashers tied the score at 4-4. Ilya Kovalchuk (1-2-3) had his 100th NHL goal and Marc Savard (0-3-3) had three assists. Kovalchuk received a gross misconduct penalty after the game for cursing the officials and breaking his stick. Pasi Nurminen made 27 saves. The Flyers were without six regulars including Keith Primeau, Jeremy Roenick and Eric Desjardins. After the game, Sutton said of the ref's decision to award a penalty shot "It was the right call. It's unfortunate it cost us the game." Atlanta head coach Bob Hartley told Flyers' head coach Ken Hitchcock "Keep this one wrapped in Christmas paper. 2005-2009:

November 5, 2005 -- Simon Gagne had his second career hat trick and an assist in a 4-3 home win. The Flyers' reached the 25,000,000 mark for home attendance. Gagne (3-1-4), Peter Forsberg (1-2-3) and Mike Knuble (0-2-2) totalled nine points in the game. Forsberg had 12 points in his last four games. Robert Esche made 28 saves. Philly had four goals on 18 shots against Mike Dunham. The Thrashers' Steve Shields suffered a knee injury during warmups and his NHL playing career would be over by the end of the month after a recurrence.
November 18, 2005 -- Greg de Vries scored on a breakaway 3:05 into OT lifting Atlanta to a 6-5 win at Philadelphia. The Thrashers scored two PPGs in the final 1:50 of regulation on goals by Peter Bondra and Patrick Stefan, the former coming on a 6-on-3 man advantage and the latter coming with seven seconds to play. Prior to the tying goal, a possible penalty was not called as Simon Gagne attempted to score into the empty net. Afterwards, Gagne said "I had a great chance to score a goal and maybe put the game away. I had a couple of sticks in my skate, and I'm pretty sure I got held." Ilya Kovalchuk (2-3-5) scored two PPGs in the first period with Donald Brashear in the box both times. Kovalchuk took nine shots, six in the opening period. Atlanta led 3-1 after the opening period and held a 17-8 shots advantage. The Flyers out-scored the Thrashers 4-0 in the second period and held a 16-7 shots advanatge. Gagne had 10 shots including seven in the second period. Kovalchuk was issued a double minor with just under eight minutes left but the Flyers failed to score. Earlier in the third period, R.J. Umberger was stopped on a penalty shot. Atlanta went 4-for-10 on the PP, while the Flyers were 2-for-6. Michael Garnett made 31 saves for the win. Robert Esche made 30 saves in the loss and said later "There are so many screw-ups out there. I don't know what is going on. No clue. The only way to truly kill a penalty is not to get in the box. We keep shooting ourselves in the foot." Branko Radivojevic (2-1-3) scored twice but was in the box for Atlanta's fourth goal. Derian Hatcher was also assessed a hooking minor late in regulation which led to the tying goal but he said later "By no means did I hook him. My stick was on the ice. He lost the puck. He stopped."
December 28, 2005 -- Sami Kapanen (1-1-2) scored off a feed from Michal Handzus (0-2-2) just 13 seconds into OT to give the Flyers a 4-3 win in Atlanta. Thrashers' goalie Michael Garnett, who entered the game with consecutive shutouts, said afterwards "(It was) just an amazing play that I don't think anyone could have stopped." Simon Gagne ended the streak less than three minutes into the game. Branko Radivojevic tied the game in the second period. Garnett and Antero Niittymaki both made 28 saves. Mike Richards had a crushing check on Ronald Petrovicky and later said "He would have hit me. I might as well hit him."
March 18, 2006 -- Antero Niittymaki made 25 saves, the Flyers' PK was 8-for-9 and Joni Pitkanen (0-3-3) had three assists in Philly's 4-2 win in Atlanta. The Flyers never trailed. Jeff Carter scored the go-ahead goal in the second period and Niko Dimitrakos added an insurance goal in the third period. Atlanta center Serge Aubin needed help leaving the ice after suffering a sprained right knee midway through the opening period and missed action until April 1.
October 26, 2006 -- John Stevens earned his first win as an NHL head coach in Philly's 3-2 shootout win at home. The Flyers won the shootout 2-1 with goals by Simon Gagne and Peter Forsberg. Antero Niittymaki made 28 saves and stopped two of the three SO attempts including the last two tries by Marian Hossa and Ilya Kovalchuk. The Thrashers switched to goalie Kari Lehtonen for the shootout after Johan Hedberg made 29 stops through 65 minutes. Forsberg also scored in regulation. January 28, 2007 -- Jeff Carter scored twice, including the GWG with 1:02 remaining, and Antero Niittymaki's personal 15-game winless streak (0-13-2) ended as he stopped 37 shots in Philly's 2-1 win at Atlanta. February 24, 2007 -- Braydon Coburn was acquired from Atlanta for Alexei Zhitnik. Flyers' GM Paul Holmgren said of Coburn "He's got tremendous size; he skates well and moves the puck well. He won't be a high point scorer, but one of those middle-of-the-road guys. For a big man, he really moves well. He's a guy we liked a long time who never found his niche in Atlanta, which has an older group of defensemen." March 15, 2007 -- Stefan Ruzicka (1-2-3) had three points and Martin Biron made 37 saves in Philly's 3-2 home win. Derian Hatcher ended a scoreless drought of 125 games and gave Philly a 1-0 lead. March 18, 2008 -- Antero Niittymaki's sparkling save off Ilya Kovalchuk's shot in the final seconds proved to be one of the most important moments in the season as the Flyers, winless in their last four, beat Atlanta 3-2 and finished the season with a 7-1-1 streak to lift them into the playoffs. Jeff Carter scored the go-ahead goal on the PP with three seconds remaining in the second period. Up by two in the last minute of play, the Flyers' lead was cut to 3-2 when Kovalchuk scored his 50th at 19:30. Then, with about three seconds to play, his bullet nearly tied the game but Niittymaki made a terrific save which floored the Atlanta forward in disbelief. October 28, 2008 -- Antero Niittymaki made 24 saves for his fourth career shutout and Simon Gagne (2-2-4), Mike Knuble (2-0-2) and Joffrey Lupul (2-0-2) each scored twice in Philly's 7-0 rout at Atlanta in a game aired nationally on VERSUS. It was the third time the Flyers won a road game 7-0 (at California February 25, 1973; at Montreal February 25, 1995). Lupul had the GWG 1:20 into the game. Glen Metropolit (1-2-3) had three points. October 27, 2011 -- Andrew Ladd scored with 1:06 to play in Winnipeg's 9-8 win at Philadelphia. The 17 goals tied a Flyers' regular season franchise mark, set three prior times (three wins in each of those instances). The Jets led 5-1 in the second period which led to the removal of Sergei Bobrovsky (10 saves, 15 shots) for Ilya Bryzgalov (6 saves, 10 shots) and later a 6-2 advantage was reduced to 6-4 after two periods. The Flyers scored three times in the opening 3:02 of the third period to take a 7-6 lead. It was (unofficially) the third time in Flyers' history that they rallied to take a lead after trailing by four goals (also February 23, 1988 at Detroit and December 11, 2008 vs. Carolina (both wins). The Jets quickly followed with two goals in 89 seconds to take an 8-7 lead, the five goals came in a span of 4:31. James van Riemsdyk made it 8-8 with 3:39 to play. The Jets pulled Ondrej Pavelec (36 saves, 43 shots) and replaced him with Chris Mason (4 saves, 5 shots) but Pavelec returned with 8:20 remaining as Mason left with an injury. The Flyers held a 48-25 shots advantage. Danny Briere (2-2-4, +3), Kimmo Timonen (0-4-4, +3) and van Riemsdyk (2-1-3) led the Flyers. Timonen's 4 assists were tied for the second highest by a Flyers' defenseman in a regular season game (Alexandre Picard had five). The Jets had nine goal scorers (a first since Pittsburgh December 13, 1990 vs. New Jersey) and the Flyers had six for a total of 15. Of the 36 skaters, 28 had at least one point. The 17 total goals were the most scored in an NHL game since San Jose beat Pittsburgh 10-8 January 13, 1996. Each team scored five straight goals: Winnipeg in a 14:38 span and Philly in an 8:51 span. February 21, 2012 -- Jaromir Jagr became the first NHL player in history to score 16 regular season OT goals when he scored with 44 seconds remaining to give Philly a 5-4 win at Winnipeg. Wayne Simmonds' (1-1-2) goal with 9.7 seconds left in regulation, off a perfect feed by James van Riemsdyk, sent the game to OT. The Flyers outshot the Jets 55-26 and tied a team record (Boston, 2007) for most shots in a regular season road game. Philly also outshot the Jets 6-1 in OT and 18-5 in the third period. The Flyers rallied from a 3-1 deficit after Winnipeg took a 2-goal lead past the game's midway point. Claude Giroux began the comeback when he scored during a 2-man advantage. The Flyers went 3-for-6 on PPs and 4-for-4 on the PK. The Jets outshot the Flyers 12-1 to open the game but the Flyers took the next 16 shots to end the period with a 17-12 advantage. The Flyers held a 39-37 shots edge and a 40-33 advantage in hits. Zac Rinaldo, who scored an ENG with under a second remaining, had 8 hits in the opening period and 12 in the game which was the most recorded by a Flyers' player since Scott Hartnell had 13 in the home outdoor game. The Flyers scored three times in the third period and recorded a thrilling 3-2 comeback win in Game 2 to even up this series. Brian Propp (2-0-2) scored two late PPGs among three scored in the last 12:56 of regulation. Dale Hunter was sent to the penalty box after he slashed Ron Hextall with 1:29 remaining and the Flyers capitalized when Tim Kerr's (0-2-2) shot deflected off Propp's skate with 51 seconds left. Propp tied the game 2-2 with 8:35 remaining. Keith Acton cut Washington's lead to 2-1 to start the barrage. The game was highlighted by a controversial play when Dino Ciccarelli scored a PPG with one second left in the middle period to put the Caps up 1-0. Some Flyers argued that Ciccarelli kicked the puck into the goal and others argued that the green light came on before the red light, which replays verified, but in the days prior to mandated replays, official Dan Schachte allowed the goal leading to a furious reaction. Geoff Courtnall (1-1-2) made it 2-0 2:40 into the third period. Propp was playing in his 100th PO game. The Caps went 1-for-8 on the PP while Philly was 2-for-4. Hextall made 19 saves for the win.

A bit nervous about this game. As I've said previously, if there's a game when they're going to underestimate the opposition, it's this one. Playing Mason wouldn't be a good idea, as having something of an unknown quantity may keep them on their toes plus I'd like to think they'd keep up the effort to try and get him a debut win. A win tomorrow, and we're well and truly in the mix for the Playoffs. Team has looked worlds apart from the one we've seen for the majority of the year.

I'm all for stating mason but just because bryz is horrible and a liability.

Given that if the rags lose today we'd be looking to get tied and into the playoffs for the first time all year with a win tomorrow i think they'll be motivated. That plus when a young team gets confidence there is little stopping them.

Also if we win do we finally get over .500 or did we get there before the recent nose dive?

I'm not sure how many wins they have in them, especially if Kimmo is down. The new guys will bring a boost because of their scenery change or the excitement of being called up again, but that's temporary.

Maybe they've got enough for one more, though.

Will be going to Pensacola tonight to watch former Flyer Tim Kerrs Pensacola Ice Flyers play in a 2nd round playoff game tonight in the SPHL league.I will be taking a bunch of British RAF folks who i am currently working with on the F-35 lightening here at EGLIN AFB in Florida......Fine bunch of lads and its been a blast training them on the new jet etc.......Something tells me they will be drinking heavily at the game ! lol..........Looking forward to hearing that Mason played well tonight and the Flyers are still rolling !
