And it's a lot of the same people that say this lineup lacks heart.

Oh the irony...
Fair enough. But if he demands a 5-6+ mil AAV for his next contract, it will be Girardi all over again. That style of play just doesn’t age well for guys his size.

At the same time, at least this season, he deserves to paid more than our overpaid core of bums.

What you're forgetting is that Girardi got that contract at age 30. That was his 4th contract with the Rangers. His 3rd contract was a 4 year deal that worked out just fine.

Lindgren will be 26 when his contract is up. His next contract will be his 3rd. A 5 year deal will be fine.

Also, Girardi had a 5.5 mil cap hit. That was 8.55% of the cap at the time. Even if Lindgren gets 6 mil per year (unlikely), that would be roughly 7.2% of 83.5 mil, and the cap should be quite a bit higher than that by then.

It's not Lindgren's next contract that we have to worry about. It's the one after that.

You also have to take that number with context. By the time he's up for his next contract the cap's going to be up significantly more than what it was when Danny g got paid that contract. Also Lindgren skates much much better than Danny g every did. I kind of get tired of hearing about how he's not going to age well and all this other stuff, yet we're a team that's trying to win right now for whatever reason. We're also a team that appears to be lacking heart up and down the lineup and this is the guy that has demonstrated more determination than maybe anybody else in this lineup over the last couple of years. Everybody celebrates draisatil for playing through that high ankle sprain he had and a large part of that is because he's a top three player in the world, but lindgren did the same thing. That kid is fearless and has more guts than almost the entire rest of the rangers organization
