For better or worse, I HAVE noticed something about Steve Yzerman's and Jon Cooper's mentality when it comes to defensemen:

They prefer the larger, mobile defenders.
Thus guys like Sustr, Coburn will keep getting every opportunity to succeed even if it means guys like Koekkoek and other now-departed players like DeAngelo, Nesterov, and Barberio never get a full shake.

Since Coburn is perfectly fine playing RD and can actually be a solid defenseman when not paired with a drunk giraffe, I'd like to see Koekkoek given a chance with Coby. It's worth a look.
