Im not trying to advocate for Chychrun specifically, just trying to understand how going for a LD with term makes sense when they have so many LD already. I do think it’s hard to judge defensive play when you are on a team like AZ, though.
I think it tells us Cliffton is gone and they would like to try and upgrade on Forbot and even Gryzz. If these rumors are true, Sweeney is being smart to try this while the team is strong-this year.

Gryz is a 5 on 5 specialist (with question marks even if you are a fan) and Forbort is a PK specialist. They combine for 6.7 in cap. If you can get someone that can do both for 4.5 it’s something to ponder. But someone like that usually doesn’t cost 4.5. Which is what makes Chychrun so interesting even if he might be a downgrade in some aspects (but an upgrade in others like actually being able to shoot the puck).

edit: "5 on 5 specialist" meaning he is good at 5 on 5, which is a good thing, but not part of special teams play :) Awkward phrasing and appropriate lambasting for using it :)

The term “5 on 5 specialist” is objectively one of the funniest things I’ve seen on this forum.

So what you’re saying is he specializes at the majority of the way the game is played.

Sounds like a steal at that number

"This guy is only useful if the team is short-handed and this guy is only useful for 90% of the game"

Sorry not trying to take shots at the OP, just a funny thing to see.

Horvat was my ideal pickup since we have no good C prospects once Berg and DK retire. Now that he is off the table I say hold firm and don't move anyone. Don't forget DK and Bergeron have bonuses that if we don't have the cap room this year they get moved to next years cap number. Not to mention Zacha and (hopefully) pasta getting a raise. We will have to offload quite a bit of cap this offseason.
IMO he's still on the table until such time Islanders sign him before March 3 and the Islanders have secured a playoff spot...

I see a lot of people want to target forwards, I’d rather them aim for another steady top-4 defenseman if they’re going to be giving up valuable assets. Don’t know who’s available, but they’re one Lindholm/McAvoy injury away from being in big trouble come playoff time.
I suggested Matt Roy from the Kings (who is said to be available) yesterday, but no one here seems interested.

Yeah I’ll take the “L” on that one. It was a funny way to put it!

Why would the Kings be interested in trading him?

Hey great idea...what are his face-off stats like?
I read a few articles in the past two days saying that they have a surplus of RD coming up next season and that they are looking to bolster other areas. Their third pair RD, Sean Walker is also mentioned as a trade possibility, but I would definitely prefer Roy.

Unfortunately that's exactly what's going to happen. I would be disappointed. But get why he would be okay fit.
Donny follows me so I feel a responsibility to not screw around as much here and take my duties as a consultant serious

I got to post what I would do as GM and it’s Acciari

I know it’s boring but me and Don are all about results

The board can thank us both mid June

4th line upgrade over Nosek will be ideal for me.

Depth #6-7 d-man with some size and who's remotely mean.
Gudas would be a good add but they needed to beat them in regulation Saturday and not give Florida any confidence

Maybe trade for Meier could be a good idea for a playoff stretch than trade him at the off season cause Bs cannot signed him ni cap space...
There are off-season cap tagging issues with that. But most don’t seem to care about cap next year so dream big I guess.
