I was thinking the same thing, isn't this the tournament @hbk was saying is kind of the last hoorah for prospects to show their stuff? I wonder if it's one of those deals where if you're an expected first rounder, you don't compete in this tournament?

Lots of good Finns that aren't eligible this year. Thought Haltunnen looked okay, lots of chances. Definitely needs to improve his skating. Jarventie has looked good out of the 2023 eligibles. I think Uronen has looked pretty good too. Haltunnen hasn't looked amazing but he's had a lot of chances and has shown off his playmaking a bit. Nurmi I haven't really seen much of. Huet is the stand out of the game for me.

Only watched a bit of the Slovak game but I liked what I saw from Dvorsky and Sale and on Defense I liked Dvorak a lot. Simek and Strbak looked pretty good too. Didn't watch the other games but apparently Cristall was one of the only players for Canada competing which at least eases some concerns about him.

Haltunnen with the 3rd goal to break the tie after a goal was called back from Finland earlier for a kick in. Beauty goal too, big guy went straight to the net and slid it in past the goalie.

It is the last hurrah, but no, there are lots of first round picks playing.

For Canada there was Cristall, Dragicevic, Wood, Price, Allen, Barlow and Ritchie.

Definitely pretty shocking but from what I've seen people say they look disorganized and like they hadn't played as a team yet (which is pretty close to the truth) and that there was a lot of disinterest from players as well.

Sweden does have a pretty good team though with ASP, NDN, Wallinder and Stenberg to name a few. Canada will hopefully (probably) look a lot better tomorrow and as the tournament goes on when they have more time to practice and rest.

This is the tournament where u will see a huge shakeup on all draft lists.

If memory serves me this is the tournament where OEL became a lock for top 10. Schiefle became a top 10 player. Tons of names like that. Dumba was a standout.

yep, have to say that Otto Stenburg (spelling?) looked fantastic and I'm gonna have to revisit his shift by shift highlights because he dominated Canada today.

No one from Canada looked good imho...

US Team, pretty much the guys that were supposed to look good looked really good: Smith, Leonard, Hutson, Eiserman, Perreault

Predictions:

By the end of the tournament

1) Moore will be top 10 and at least 1 scout will have him top 5
2) ASP will be the first d-man taken
3) Reinbacher will fall to mid first round
4) A goalie will have an oustanding game and go from unranked to drafted

And for the true scalding hot take:

Stenberg will go top top 10 overall.

I know nothing about the teams, but that score seems shocking.
I know nothing about this tournament but heard Craig Button interview this morning which said that these are essentially same teams as last year's U-17s with very different results. He expected Canada to be better next game.

Every year it’s the big late riser tourney. Seems like it may be ASP’s time…

A year ago i would have written Yager’s name in pen around 5th/6th overall. If he falls to us at 12 i am very tempted and i really didn’t like his regular season this year. My final list will be fun.

Yeah but he’s seemed to have stepped it up as of late. I agree, though. I had him firmly 5-6th. Huge fan last season. This year? He was good. But the development curve just wasn’t as sharp as I like. He was so good last season I expected him to really kill it. He was really good. Good enough to still be in my top 12. But not good enough to maintain his previously lofty status on my list.

Moore is an excellent skater, but his hockey IQ is average at best, I'd rather go with several other players in the top 10 to Moore.
What’s his low-end? Todd Marchant? 35-40pt half center, half winger (who wins draws), PKs like crazy, has insane speed, but tunnel vision? He had like three top ten selke voting seasons. Good career but didn’t have the pure skills or vision.

High-end is maybe Dylan Larkin-ish?

agree, although I think his offensive upside is Larkin lite. I just don't see Moore putting up 70pts ever in the NHL...most likely 50pt player with some high 60 seasons potentially...but never a ppg'er and yes, as you said, a 35-40pt on the low end who is a good PKer.
