FIRE DON SWEENEY INTO THE SUN
Zero reason to pay Cook big money when they have a great starting RB.
That's silliness.
That's silliness.
Look at everybody’s disappointment!
WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING???
I think you are underrating Juju, Geiseki and the impact of O'brien, while overrating Hopkins' impact. However, I am a Phin fan who came to really dislike Mike G, and his softness. He does fit the Patriot's general scheme like a glove though. They are probably spending 6 to 7 million more than any other team on players who will play almost all of their snaps on special teams but they can't give 13 a year plus incentives to a WR1 who was on pace for 1560 yards if he played a full season with Kyler. The afc is stacked and the Patriots big offseason on offense has been replacing Jakobi with Juju and adding Gesicki. A offense filled with third pass catching options on a contender with a qb that needs talent to elevate him and not the other way around. At least they got that eyesore of a giant video board
There’s a very good reason why he’s a coach with a losing record without Brady. He’s doing the same thing he did in Cleveland here. Middling teams with record a game under or a game over .500, and no chance to win a playoff game because the roster has zero game breakers.I'm not disappointed because I never thought he was coming here.
I am disappointed because as BMac pointed out, they spend dumb money on special teams specialists when the rules gave mads those guys batter so much less. You just need guys with strong legs to kick, not gunners. It’s literally devoid of high end talent, and regardless of whether he can coach up lesser players, you actually need elite talent in that league if you want to win.
I don't think Juju sucks but he's a 80-95 catch and 800-950 yards a year wr. He's Jakobi Meyers with a little more yac ability when any team would want more than that from their wr1. I don't think the team sucks, they might make the playoffs but i think Hopkins would have given them the floor of being a playoff team. It would have also let you go into next offseason knowing if Mac Jones is the guy or not if he had that wr1. Right now there's still the excuse that the pass catchers are towards the bottom of the league.I think you are underrating Juju, Geiseki and the impact of O'brien, while overrating Hopkins' impact. However, I am a Phin fan who came to really dislike Mike G, and his softness. He does fit the Patriot's general scheme like a glove though.
Agreed. Opportunity lost.A big f***ing mistake by the Patriots. He was someone they needed desperately and would get the reps.
The problem with this team is that they didn't bottom out when they should've. The real problem with Cam Newton wasn't that he wasn't good enough, it was that he wasn't bad enough and still won us a couple games. Could've jumped up a few draft slots and got Justin Fields, Micah Parsons, or if they really tanked they could've got Pitts or Chase.
And now they're in a relatively similar situation with Mac Jones who is pretty good but not great, but even when he's bad he isn't so bad that we'd ever go under 6-11 or 7-10. So they're stuck in this spiral of mediocrity because they didn't use the Covid season as an excuse to give the keys to Stidham and go 4-12 and draft a real franchise gamebreaker.
I'm pretty sure Hopkins had very little interest in reuniting with BOB given their past relationship issues in Houston, but that didn't stop him from leveraging the Pats to get more out of the Titans.don't think Hop would take less to go with the ups and downs of Mac Jones
That's the kind of offer you make when you've got Tom Brady and prime Belichick. But I'm super excited to roll into a make-or-break year for Mac with $17m in cap space.Laughed hard at the claims of the offers between the Pats and Titans being close last night.
Albert Breer broke it down and it's not even in the same stratosphere.
Breer: How Patriots' offer to DeAndre Hopkins compared to Titans'
The Patriots were willing to pay DeAndre Hopkins in free agency, but how they structured their offer ultimately cost them, according to Albert Breer.sports.yahoo.com
4 Mill base and crazy incentives vs 12 mill base and 3 mill of easily attainable incentives, plus a chance to bump it up to 33 mill. Yeah, those are not the same.
Bill is a complete shitheel. He's a losing coach without Brady but even worse, is a terrible GM.
I didn’t think he’d come here based on the rocky relationship he had with BOB and because the Pats were absolutely not going to be the high bidders, then after hearing the offer it was clear the offer wasn’t really an offer. It was a PR move where they go “we offered him the same money as Tenn but he picked them over us” what can you do? It’s on par with the Bruins “offers” to Tavares when he was courting deals in free agency. You make an offer you know they won’t accept and then spin it to the press as being a “competitive offer”. Total major league bulllshit is what it was. Hilarious to me that some folks thought he’d come and that the offer was real. It wasn’t.Offering ring hopping discount money to vets without a chance at a ring lol
It’s why I didn’t get my hopes up. If they wanted him badly they would’ve gotten him. They don’t feel like they need him. They’re probably wrong.

He’s basically a better version of Juju and Parker, none of them can really separate all that well and are contested catch/possession guys. Probably felt he was redundantYeah, I don't see that as an offer they thought would be competitive. It reflects their interest level, and how if he were willing to play for cheap, they'd be willing to take him.
One of the things I've wondered is whether their tepid interest is more of a reflection on the belief that he's not a good fit more than their opinion of his talent. His skillset doesn't quite fit what they historically like to do on offense (DeVante Parker's doesn't either, for that matter).
I never saw Hopkins as a fit despite Belichick's professed love for him. we did this with Chad Johnson who was washed. Why make the offer if you dont want the player.Yeah, I don't see that as an offer they thought would be competitive. In the hopes he just said yes to cheap I guess.I never saw Hopkins as a fit despite Belichick's professed love for him. we did this with Chad Johnson who was washed. Why make the offer if you dont want the player.
Exactly. Anyone justifying it is a belichick apologist of the highest order.Their offer was insane.
Hilarious. Bill cheaps out then cries to the media that Kraft is cheap. He’s a f***ing clown. I can’t wait until he’s gone.
