Krug to Boston thoughts:

- the Blues would have to retain salary to make it work on the Bruins end, which they probably don't want to do

- Krug would be the third pair and PP specialist, meaning the Bruins still need a top 4 LHD who can kill penalties

- Bruins would need to find a bottom pair RHD to offset some of Krug's size and help support him in their own end

- Grz for Krug@50 percent retained? I was a big Torey Krug fan and supporter but 4 more years on his contract and he's already 32. I'm not sure if that's the kind of contract length the Bruins need to attach themselves to considering his age. IMO, it's a nostalgia trap and one they should pass on

- the Blues would probably love to yeet Binnington into orbit and get a guy like Ullmark
So the Blues are getting Gryz for one year just to clear 3 million off the books for the next four?

Krug at 50% retained is probably still a negative asset given his age and the amoung of term left. Gryz on his current contract is a positive asset that would probably return a 2nd rounder on the open market. If we're doing a Gryz for Krug swap the Blues would need to be including a pretty decent pick/prospect to make it worth it.

With the media reporting Krug won't waive, any deal for him now starts with Armstrong over a barrel with his pants down.

Love Krug .....and totally understand - and agree - why he took the deal with St. Louis and an extra year

that said- the Bs needs to get younger overall and bigger on D....Torey checks neither and even if St. Louis retains 50% he still ties up a chunk of money and negates much of the 24-25 cap increase

need to pass and look to the future not to past glory

Elias LIndholm is the obvious choice for a center for now, however looking at the future, would like to see the Bruins go after both Shane Wright and the #2OA pick and take Adam Fantilli, this sets you up at center for the next 15 years. I would move McAvoy if need be for Fanitlli, this guy reminds me so much of MacKinnon, Wright could be close to a Bergeron type. Not sure what it would take to get Wright.
Fantilli would be perfect moving forward and if the Bruins can add Drysdale who's already familiar with Lindholm for the Cost of McAvoy +. Id do it! Your clearing 9.5 mil in cap space in the process and your adding a potential number 1 center for the next 10-12 years and a top 4 defenseman. There'd be other pieces going each way but I like it. Not that I think Verbeek would ever move that pick, but a player like McAvoy would make him think twice about it.

Prime Krug was a lot of fun. He's still a good enough specialty player, but he's injury-prone and his defense is worse than it use to be. He gets very sheltered minutes. oZS% last season was nearly 80%. His first season with the Blues they tried to balance out his oZS and dZS, but it was an abject failure. Horrible season for him. Bs definitely do not need to be taking on that bad contract, even, as you say, if money is retained. He doesn't add enough to the team to justify the expense.

LA is going to be nasty next year, wouldn’t be surprised to see them make a run.
They were pretty dangerous this past season, even with the adversity they had to deal with. They add a decent D or two, upgrade goalie, and stay relatively healthy, I think they will be as good as any team in the West. Their prospect pool isn't too shabby either. Nothing like that of NJ or the Wild, but very respectable.

Cassidy leaves and wins a cup with Vegas then Ullmark goes to LA and wins a cup. That would be fun. I would think a lot of their best pieces will be going to Winnipeg if they get Dubois.
Without question, with them apparently adding the finishing touches on an 8 yr deal u know the jets are getting a quality return,
