His draft rankings are over 100 spots higher than his #224... C/W... 6'1. I can see why they wanted to control his rights.

who? what'd i miss? or do you mean mr irrelevant

Seems like a solid Mr. Irrelivant.
Tyler Peddle.

I call ANYONE drafted last as "Mr. Irrelevant" even if they really aren't, talent-wise.

And Tyler still being there when everyone went home, just so he ends up hearing his name call was so damn awesome to see.

I'm very happy for him....even though he's going to Columbus.

After talking about bone dust and those origins the other night and space junk, I know I was calling Klee space junk for his brief tenure, which felt way too long. Only 24 games, regular season and playoffs combined, but it was 24 games too many.

I remember calling Lyle Odelein space junk back in 1996 or something.

That's exactly how I felt about the Kurtis Foster experience. Thankfully we greatfully upgraded before the playoffs.

lolwut?

OMG! He's here, too!

That is so cool. :)

I think last year's Mr. Irrelevant was in the building too. Belarussian kid playing in the Q, so he might have been nearby to the draft in Montreal.

Dustin Wolf was the 4th to last pick in 2019 and he looked pissed when he got to the floor since he expected to go much earlier. I think I read that he was ready to bail on the draft earlier but his entourage convinced him to stick around.

Kurtis Foster MUST go NOW!!!!! was one of the greatest threads I've ever seen on here.

It was started by @glenwo2

Unfortunately, it was banished to HTML hell probably only a year or so after he was on the team, when some of the old threads and content were deleted around 2013.

Overall, our current NHL/development situation gives us a lot of flexibility in how we could have approached this draft.

Seems like the plan was to draft high IQ players and hope that their physical skills catch up. A couple of guys who were late risers as the season went on, some are more projection picks.

But overall I think it's a good strategy and reminiscent of what Castron did in the early Shero years. Lots of upside and we can afford to play it slow with these guys, which seems to be a priority for this front office.

Damn. Dustin Wolf has some solid goalie numbers.

If anyone’s curious, the last Devils 7th rounder to play NHL games was Jeremy Davies. 23 games so far between Nashville and Buffalo.

Davies might even be in the running for the best pick in that round. Depends how much you value….uh….. Joachim Blichfeld? Calvin Thurkauf?

And don’t forget the legendary Mauro Jorg. Our once and future savior Tyler Eckford was a 7th round pick in 2004, but that was back when there were 9 rounds. Nate Perkovich was taken in the 8th round and it looks he just retired from the ECHL in 2022.

And of course there was Ilkka Pikkarainen.

I like identification of IQ. It's an important skill and can allow a player to maximize their physical ability. Combine it with some compete and skating and you probably have a player who is at least a good checking/defensive player. I'd look more for the IQ skating combo though. The way the league is going if a player can't keep up all the smarts in the world won't help.
