CAN 9 LAT 0 Goal scorers - Struthers(2), King, LaFrance, Gilmour, Yantysis, Dmytriw, Brassard, Shea
JPN 5 SWE 0

CAN plays CZE Wed 1730. A win will clinch 1st in the group.

Women-
CAN 14 GBR 0 SOG 73-5
CZE 2 SVK 1

CAN plays USA Wed 2100. CAN has already clinched 1st and will "probably" meet SVK in the semi.

Texting with Gardiner this evening and he thinks the CZE game should be good. Said they saw KAZ last night and they have a good team with some KHL players on it.
Looking ahead, I see CAN-KAZ for Gold.

Wednesday scores:

Men -
USA 4 KAZ 1
KOR 5 SVK 4
CAN 4 CZE 0 Goal scorers - LaFrance, Dmytriw, Davis, Coxhead
JPN 4 UKR 2

CAN finishes 5-0

I watched most of the game and it was the "best" so far for CAN. CZE were physical, hard forecheck.

The mens semis are not decided yet as there are games played on Thursday.
JPN is currently #2 behind CAN but CZE could overtake them with a regulation or OT win against UKR.

CAN could play KAZ, SVK or USA, depending on the result of the USA-HUN game.
A USA regulation win will put them #1 and CAN will play KAZ.
A USA OT win will put them #2 and CAN will play USA.
A USA loss or OT loss and they are out and CAN will play SVK.

I make these predictions assuming FISU follows the IIHF for tie breakers. (Thanks to Foyle for refreshing my mind on the rules)
(I'm assuming A1 v B2 and B1 v A2)

Women -

CZE 13 GBR 0
CAN 2 USA 1

I caught the 3rd period of this game and it was a good game.

CAN finishes 5-0

CAN will play SVK on Friday
CZE will play JPN on Friday
(I'm assuming 1 v 4 and 2 v 3)
Gold medal game Sat 2135 AST on TSN

Thursday scores:

Men -

USA 9 HUN 1
KOR 8 GBR 4
SWE 5 LAT 3
UKR 3 CZE 1

USA clinches 1st in their group. Tied with KAZ in points but has the tiebreaker having won over KAZ
UKR was a bit of a surprise over CZE. I watched the late 3rd and UKR was up 3-1 and CZE didn't pull the goalie until about 40 seconds left. With the loss CZE is out and JPN is in.

CAN will play KAZ Sat at 1405 AST
USA will play JPN at 1035 AST

Looking at the TSN site they are showing the 1035 game and will also show the mens Gold medal game Sun at 1800 AST.

On the womens side CAN will play SVK on Fri 1535 AST on TSN
CZE will play JPN at 2105 AST.
Womens Gold medal game is Sat at 2135 AST. As of now, nothing on TSN site.

Just a note on "TV" coverage.
On my FireStick, I can watch all the ESPN streaming feeds which means I can watch all the hockey games.
To test it out, I was just watching Xcountry skiing.
Just looked on TSN site and no change in their listing, so they may not have the CAN mens semi Sat or womens Gold medal game.

CAN women with a solid 6-1 win over SVK.

Good 1st period and SVK led after one.

CAN dialed it up in the 2nd with 2 goals and add 4 in the 3rd.

UNBs Woodland with the win. SOG 45-22 for CAN.

Very good USA-JPN semi today. USA 2-0 early in 1st including a SH goal. JPN responded with 2 goals on both ends of a 5-3 PP and USA scored with 13 sec left for the 3-2 lead after 1.
Scoreless 2nd and JPN got another PP goal midway in 3rd.
10 min 3-on-3 OT ended less than a minute in when USA scored the game winner.

USA will face either CAN or KAZ in Gold medal game while JPN waits for their Bronze opponent.

I was disappointed with the play of Kazakhstan. They are usually much better in this tournament.

I don't know if USA is doing well or if the Czechs and Slovaks have just been that week. It would have been nice to see Ukraine advance. They were close.

So, it is an all-North America final and an all-Asia bronze game. Nothing for Europe.

It helps that the USA finally sent real college hockey players rather than the team of club clown all-stars they sent in years past.
