Some decent news today

how is that decent news?
also how the hell is Zito a finalist?
He made 1 move at the beginning of the year (big as it was), and lucked into a PO spot because Pittsburgh choked against an AHL roster in Chicago on the like the last day of the season.
Not sure how Nill is a finalist either. Miller, Lundkvist and Marchment were bad moves that haven't worked out. So it's basically saying we slighted Deboer for the Adams, but will give Nill credit for signing Deboer?

Who would you have as a finalist over them?

I think the national press is giving Nill his due for strong drafts, rebuilding the Stars on the fly, and being competitive, and yes, even classy, LOL (odd timing on that) If you get to the WCF, not all your moves were trash. I'm not even sure the three you mention are trash, as time may tell on all but Miller, who was a serviceable D that is presumably 1/7th of the reason the Stars finished 3rd in GAA in the regular season. We hope March will be like Pavs and just have struggles the first year, and that Nils works out as well as extra seasoning for Harley did, another great Nil move that did work out.

It always amazes me how fans can cherry pick the lesser moves while ignoring the overall record, which is only disappointing in that we are not going to be the one team that takes it all this year. But, it looks like we will again lose to the eventual winner.....which is bittersweet. We didn't feel great losing to the Blues the year they won or to TB in the finals, but the Stars have given us more to watch than most NHL teams the last few years. Just not in this series.

He deserves it, but I am still grumbling about Dumba's hit on Pavs being a no-penalty call. It didn't turn out to affect anything, as the Stars beat MN and Pavs came back strong against SEA. He hasn't done a lot in this series, but then, who has?

Gm of the year has to do with this year not the overall tenure.
His moves this year
Signing Marchment -he's been bad, if he does better next year good on him. But in the context of this year it's bad.
Signing Miller -He's been bad.
Trading for Lundkvist -No AHL eligibility, 60gp then scratched for Joel Hanley at the cost of a 1st and 4th. that's bad.
Gave away Peterson for nothing - meh.

He made 2 additional moves, his only good moves this year
Turned Gurianov into a productive player in Dadonov, and to give full credit, this is a stroke of genius, finally undoes a colossal drafting mistake
Got Domi for 2nd.

So, you're saying his gm of the year finalist is based of 2 good moves that happened with 20 games left in the year? Because outside of Deboer who did more with the roster than i would have expected, there's not a lot of good moves

Any chance we do a future spotlight and call up Borque?

Pop him on a line with Domi and Seguin and put some pep in the step.
doubt it, depending on if Dadonov can go or not.
It'll likely just be Glendening and Freddy

3 games (basically) is stiff. maybe someone can try to break someone's wrists tomorrow night and serve 1 game

Examples will be made when dumbassed boneheads rage-check other players in the face and then refuse to accept responsibility. It is what it is- show up for 1 game and score at least 1 goal then move forward from there.

So frustratingly dumb.

This would be the right decision. Freddy and Glendening both do nothing for this squad offensively. You’re down two offensive players so you call up one of your best offensive prospects to fill that spot and let Glendening center the 4th line again.

while i agree with your assesment of those moves, if you go with 'this year only' logic, then how do you ever credit a GM with draft picks? it's not like they should have given nill votes when WJ was drafted.. have to wait till they're with the big club. in that sense, it has to be a bit broader than one year. hell, what if nils has a great year next year? the move was made this year, so nill gets no credit?

the creation of a roster for any given year is the culmination of moves/decisions multiple years prior. hell, even the ability to trade for players at the tdl can be a result of having garnered additional picks a year or two prior.

this award has always been about how a roster performs for the year (including coaching staff) as a reflection of the work the GM has done to get the roster to that point.
