I will keep this thread updated with players going to arbitration, when their hearing dates are, and details of when the contract is settled.

-Players and teams can settle on their own contract at any point up to the opening of the arbitration case.
-Arbitration can result in either 1 or 2 year contracts (chosen by the party being taken to arbitration), unless the second year would eat up a UFA year.
-Teams cannot walk away from Club Elected Arbitration awards.
-Teams can walk away from Player Elected Arbitration awards of greater than $4,538,958, leaving the player a UFA.

With the tight cap situations of BOS and MIN, I think they have to do what they can to avoid going to arb with their goalie. Their cases are very strong.

Approximately when do arbitration hearings happen? Mid July? August?

I think Jeannot's case is going to be the most interesting. Regardless of ruling (if it gets that far), I assume Tampa basically has to accept. Otherwise, they paid maybe the highest price for a rental in a long time... for Jeannot.

His number will be below the walkaway number of 4.538 M, so they have no choice in the matter.

Jeannot’s case should be that he’s apparently worth a full draft to Tampa
Offer sheet compensation would say that a 1st + 2nd + 3rd is equal to $6,435,187-$8,580,250

Now, Jeannot didn't quite hit the next bracket (2 1sts++), but he did return an additional 4th + 5th on top of the 1,2,3.

So... I think the arbiter has no choice but to award Jeannot with a maxed out offer sheet compensation equivalent contract of $8,580,250

Disagree.

I present the case that the Jeannot trade included Cal Foote (2017 - 14th overall)

Therefore, he was traded for 2 1st's + round 2, 3, 4, and 5 pick.

That is greater than the threshold of 2 1sts + 2nd and 3rd, but less than the 4 1st's max compensation.

Therefore, based on Tampa's perceived value of him - he should be awarded a value somewhere between the 2 1st's + 2nd and 3rd compensation of $8, 580, 250 (should be more as he got more than the min. compensation) and the 4 1sts max compensation of 20% of the cap (16.7M).

I think to make it fair to everyone, we settle in the middle. Tampa's perceived value of the transaction was a cap hit of $12.64M. Even though that was Tampa's perceived value based on what they gave up, it would not be unreasonable to suggest that they felt they got excess value, hence completing the trade. However, to make the arbitrator and Tampa's life easier, Jeannot will gladly accept the middle ground arbitration number of $12.64M.

Jeannot rests his case.

I quickly looked but I do not see any legit NHLers who had arbitration rights who decided not to file. :dunno:

I did a quick filter search on CF with:
- RFA
- Arbitration eligible
That yields 45 players.

Adding anther filter of 30+ NHL games played this past season cuts the list to 22 players—identical to the 22 players filing for arbitration.

Search inputs:

p.s. I didn’t intentionally pick 30 games to cut it down to the 22 player list. Looking at the players below that 30 game threshold the next names are Logan Stanley (19), Cale Fleury (12j and Aleksi Heponiemi (10). So maybe 20 games would have been a fine cutoff.

Ahh it's arbitration season. Players will go high, teams will go low, and fans will somehow always find a way to be baffled that as they go "LMAO, REALLY? <insert player> thinks he's worth <THIS AMOUNT>?"
