The biggest things of note about PLD:
1)Wanting to be traded multiple times.
2)Having the laziest shift of all time.

Those are the two things he's literally most known for.

You'd think those would be red flags, but the Kings seem to love him. They've wanted him for years. Going all the way back to his CBJ days.
The contract extension was just f***ing wild. Like how did they come up with that ridiculous of a number for a guy who puts up 60 points max and is a poor defender. Isn't that worth $6-7 million? Not 8.5.

It's almost like the people running the Kings were doing a favor for an old friend

Disappointing loss tonight. The Kings seam to have a mental struggle against the Oilers. The team has plenty of offense(maybe needs to regain their sandpaper scoring again), D is mostly solid, but to do some damage in the playoffs they really need a #1 goalie. Talbot/Rittich have done a better than expected job, but they shouldn't be the goalies carrying the team into the playoffs.
They have offensive depth but no top 50 scorers. The Oilers have 97, 29 (drai), Hyman, RNH all over point a game.. and 97 and 29 over 1.5 .. thats some fire power the Kings have nothing close. LAK 1C Kopitar is like 220th pts/60.

I was willing to give PLD some time, but I cannot believe Blake traded for this guy. 7 and half more years of this. Have mercy on us all. If kempe is out for the season we may not make the playoffs. Ouch.

The flipside is the more guys get hurt, the more kids they HAVE to play

I don't want Kempe injured but there's only so much longer they can keep Turcotte, Kaliyev, Fagemo, Thomas, Clarke, etc. out of the lineup in favor of stiffs like Lewis

It'll be like 21 all over again where the Kings 'overachieve' with kids like Durzi and Spence logging 25 minutes a game instead of Doughty playing in 'conserve' mode full time.

They'll make some trades to make sure they don't have to play them.

PLD went 3-for-14 on face offs tonight.

Face offs aren't the most important thing in the world, but it can give you an idea of how engaged a guy is. If you're taking that many draws and can't even get to 30% that's pathetic.

He also didn't have a single defensive zone draw in the game. That gives you an idea of the what the coaching staff thinks of his defensive play. Can't even rely on him to start a shift in his own end.

Hes not engaged enough to be a center. Maybe move him to wing and put Byfield at center or Turcotte.

And he was brought in as an answer to the Oilers. Imagine the back slapping that must have happened among management after that trade. It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re still happy with it.

It shouldn't surprise me but dang once again we have a chance to take em out after 1st period and once again they derail like in LA. PK has been super weird they give up 1 lately on first kill but than are nails after that just really weird.

IF Kempe goes to LTIR that's $12.5 M on LTIR and as long as those players aren't healthy no earlier than Game 1

A desperate GM could go on a shopping spree with that at the deadline.

But there's so many holes and needs with this lineup. This GDT has been great for that, so many different posters have mentioned so many different things on what's missing. Goaltending that can deliver in the playoffs. Not enough right shooting forwards = wrong handedness at the wrong place, wrong time. Lack of bottom 6 toughness. Clarke or Spence sitting. There's so much to address that it would be a foolish strategy to try and pull a Vegas with the LTIR for the playoffs.

Hmmm, what will BLuc do?

Hope Kempe is ok. Winger depth is going to be tested here.

Has anyone heard anything on Grundstrom?

I would put QB back with Kopitar

QB-Kopitar-Laf
Moore-Danault-Fiala
Turcotte-PLD-Kaliyev
JAD-Lizotte-Lewis

Gavrikov-Doughty
Roy-Clarke
Moverare-Spence

Spence's defensive game is leaps and bounds ahead of where Clarke is at, but Clarke should not sit two games in a row ever.

Calgary has been playing really good hockey for the past 6 weeks or so (Huberdeau has been a point per game over this time). Team needs to play hard tonight, even with some pretty key injuries.

it's just one game guys
It's a whole season tho.

Pretty obvious this team isn't a cup team. Not sure they will get past any of Colorado, Vegas, Vancouver, Edmonton, or Dallas. Throw in Winnipeg too.

They don't have the horses or goaltending.

Kings can't get that extra gear to get past these teams in a seven game series.

Not really, this team is very up and down. My roster comment is not based on one game at least.

Biggest thing they do not have is the consistency. That happens when you have a lot of youth in the lineup. Does not change the fact you are right they are not contenders.
