Regarding Kaliyev, it's funny when we talk about gripping the stick etc. He's definitely in his own head as evidenced by:
- He has a bit of a one-minded attitude when he gets the puck in the offensive zone: shoot from anywhere. Bad shot? Whatever. Get it on net. No thinking.
- When he actually has a legit scoring opportunity, it's looking for the perfect shot time and that's where the stick gripping comes in and the puck is air-mailed.
He has to start finishing at some point but, then again, getting yourself in position to score and setting up others in good spots is a skill in its own right and he is doing it: I'd bet on the skill and pedigree to eventually come through.
Let's all remember that Toffoli had a 13 goal season while not missing a game in 2019. Stuff like this can happen. Giving up on him now during a low point would be stupid asset management, just like it would have been if they moved Toffoli at the 2019 TDL instead of the following season.
