As we keep trading away picks, the prospect pool to fill out the AHL team is going to get thinner and thinner. Ertel should be a serviceable bottom 6 AHLer.

Has a less impressive stat sheet than, say, Connor Roulette, but has the size and defensive acumen to hold his own in the pros. Ertel will likely never sniff the NHL, but you need depth in the system so the Texas Stars don't collapse.

I don't think anyone argued going to Sweden was bad for development, it was bad for Texas and weird choice to leave a team mid-season. If he wanted to stay in the SHL all year and then come to Texas the spring of '24 no one would have cared.
