He did the matte helmets for him and was fantastic, it's Alec Voggel of Airxess.

He hasn't done an NHL mask in a while, mostly does Euro league masks. But Hiller had some amazing ones by him.
It's almost like daveart has an exclusive contract with NHL and no other artist can't paint masks 🤣

I very much doubt the goalies ask DaveArt to put in 65 thousand lens flare, WizardTech, GoombaFX and whatever else nonsense.
You'd be surprised. DaveArt masks do actually vary and it really depends on what the goalies want. Not every goalie has good taste. In fact, most of them don't. They're not artists. They're goalies.

They one hundred percent do and many of them have lengthy conversations with trainers and equipment staff about their designs and you'd be surprised how many even know his specific terminology.

Yes, this is true, but the even bigger factor at play here that people don't seem to understand is goalies are *not* designing masks to look cool from the front row, or from the crowd, or on TV.

Goaltenders, in large part, are very particular about their gear, moreso than most position players for sure, and they are superstitious and finicky and how their gear looks and feels is really important to the psychological part of the game. The masks, 90 percent of the time, are designed to look cool *to them* when they have it on the shelf as they put on their gear. They want it to reflect them, have details they want, honour the people they want and add in the things they think looks cool.

Very rarely do they care, at all, about design, symmetry, tastefulness, etc.

The artist, DaveArt or otherwise, is usually the one trying to take all of these things and try to tie them together in some kind of cohesive design.

Is it really hard to believe that the goalies getting DA masks, you know...actually like his designs? I know people here have a hard-on for hating DA stuff, but he didn't get all this business for no reason. Or maybe NHL goalies just hate HF posters and are doing it out of spite, who knows.

The artist produces what the commissioner wants. If you have a complaint about taste, direct it to the goalies ordering these masks.

Exactly.

What's more believable; Daveart makes the mask according to the goalies request and wishes and the goalie accepts the final product and proudly wears it all season? Or Daveart creates a mask with little to no input from the goalie, and the goalie begrudgingly wears it, in spite of various HF posters?
