Personally i think players who play college hockey are not very interesting to follow.

Vilardi I watched a ton of. That whole circus with his back injury, he finally put things together and Blake decided it was a good idea to trade him.

Koehn Ziemmer made things interesting again and of course, injured. Currently back but a shell of his former self.

Just to name a few reasons.

Aatu Jämsen with very disappointing Liiga playoffs, but apparently he was playing injured. Injury-riddled season for him.
True King then. With both the disappointment in the playoffs and being an injured prospect

Yeah, he committed to NMU because his brother is there, and had said he plans on completing his degree. But that was also before he spent this past season in Fargo so plans change.

I think RJ has it right, he can still be a force at NMU. Cream rises to the top and what not.

The kid's been a leader on the ice everywhere he's been so far, and he seems to have that competitive mindset that you want in a player.

What are the chances Hammer ends up getting an invite to the US WJC camp?
Too young, too unknown, not skilled enough?

Feels like it's a maybe?
I think it's a very good chance he at least makes the team.

Opposite of too young. He turns 19 in July and will be too old for the 2026 WJC. This upcoming season will be his last opportunity.

Not too unknown. He played a game at the Hlinka Gretzky for Team USA in 2022 (and got a shutout). He also helped USA get Bronze in the U19s this year (also had the best GAA in the tourney).

As far as skilled - I don't know all the U20 US goalie prospects, but he dominated the USHL season where it simply wasn't close. And he's the starting goalie in the playoffs over the team's 21 year-old partner (where they played tandem all season long; Hammer played 33 games to Castro's 31).

The biggest obstacle may actually been Trey Augustine. He's backstopped Team USA at multiple levels and went the whole way through USNTDP. He's still young enough to play next season in the WJC. I would expect Augustine to be their go-to starter.

So, I know it's still 7 months out, but I would expect Slukynsky to be penciled as a backup. From there, he may get a game in a back-to-back setting or if Augustine struggles.

For context, here are Slukynsky's regular season numbers in the USHL this year. Almost 1 goal against fewer on average. Top SV%. Most shutouts. Perfect in the one shootout the opposing team took him to.

Slukynsky made 21 saves in Game 5 for the shutout. He last allowed a goal at 19:37 of the second period of Game 3.

He didn't get credited with a shutout in Game 4 though. He was pulled late in the game when it got chippy, and his backup played the final 5+ minutes. So, it didn't count.

Fargo's going to the Clark Cup final.

Kings need a top notch goalie prospect so damn bad. Not sure about portillo and where he will be but Slukynsky looks promising at least.

It's also worth noting that his statistical success isn't just because he plays on a good team.

Look at the stark contrast between him and Fargo's other netminder:

Castro is 21 years old and in his 3rd USHL season. Sluky is an 18 year old rookie.

Agreed! They definitely play on a good and pretty defensively responsible team (both Hammer and Castro are bottom-5 in shots against among goalies with >1200 minutes played), but it's pretty apparent that the teams benefit from his play, too. It's not like he was being carried.

It's exciting to think what can be with Hampton in 5-7 years after the rebuild from the inevitable Blake collapse & rebuild. In 2030 (crazy to think of the freaking year 2030), he'll only be 24...well 25 at the start of the 2030-2031 season six years from now. Right when goalies start to hit. That gives AEG 6 years to wake up to the Bluc disaster and rebuild. Heck, QB will only be 27-28 and Clarke 27.

Yeah but they’ll all be on other teams…. :naughty:
