His progression was a pleasant surprise this year. Maybe one of our prospects who made the biggest jump this year.

There's a couple of stories out there how Colangelo planned to help himself out, including returning to college. Colangelo wanted to improve his goal scoring and went to a college whose coach has helped many players become big time goal scorers. His time with Northeastern had soured after his sophomore season. I denoted during his junior season that his coaches separated him from his sophomore linemates, when all three had great production. It didn't make any sense and I'm glad his move to WMU was proof the Northeastern coaches throttled Colangelo's talent.

Once Colangelo decided to return to college and transfer to WMU, then he became a man on a mission. We all saw he was one of the hungrier prospects at the Dev camp early in the summer. He was fast, fiesty, and, most of all, scoring goals. That was good foreshadowing.

An NCAA Ducks prospect who should follow Colangelo's lead is Kyle Kukkonen. He went from scoring 18 goals in his freshman season and the team's leading goal scorer to only one goal this season. Kukkonen was injured for the latter parts of the regular season and his first game back was at the NCAA tourney, where he looked feisty, shooting a lot, and stood out. I'm hoping Kukkonen transfers to a different school. Maybe WMU needs goal scoring replacements with Colangelo leaving and probably senior Grainger too.

How does a PTO work, technically he isn’t signed to an ELC so he could still become a UFA at the end of the summer.

A PTO has a max term length of 25 games with an AHL team. Even though Colangelo is signed to a PTO, we still own his rights until Aug 15, 2024. If we do not sign him or he doesn't want to sign with us by Aug 15, 2024, then Colangelo becomes a FA.

On a similarly situation, Ben King is signed to an SPC with an AHL team (the Gulls). He too isn't on an ELC. We own his rights until Jun 1, 2024. If King doesn't sign with us by that time, then we lose his rights. Currently, King is our 8th best scorer as an AHL rookie with 14g + 15a (0.54 ppg) and a +0 rating.
