The Steelers have a major backlog since they didn’t retire numbers, but instead just didn’t issue them.

This makes a lot of sense. I was wondering how on earth a guy like Harris was just now getting his number formally retired.

Now that players can wear almost any number it gives clubs more freedom to retire jerseys.
Back in Harris’s days only the QB and K/P could wear anything under 20. That’s 15/16 numbers available. The other 48 (now) would be left the other 80 numbers.

That’s probably the only good thing about allowing players to wear a greater range of numbers.

So he went from maybe playing week 1 as of a couple of days ago to needing 2 more weeks beyond Sunday?

Who knows if those prior reports were even close to being accurate.
Maybe also Wilson tried to push it too hard and suffered a bit of a setback. Thus they opted to dial it back for him. This season isn’t about playoffs for the Jets. It’s about finding out if Wilson is their QB moving forward. No point in sending him out there if he’s not 100%.

This is a sad scene but hopefully one that scares players enough to not blow their money. AP made tens of millions in his career and spent it as if he was still going to be making that kind of coin over the final 50 plus years of his life.

What kind of idiocy was that last night??

You go out and make a massive trade for Russel Wilson, pay him $265M, and then instead of putting the ball in his hands for 5 yards you make your kicker go for a 64-yard field goal? That's just absurd and really a tough way for the Broncos to start building with Russ.

outside of missing the game winning field goal, Blankenship had two ugly kickoffs that both ended in out of bounds penalties.

Biggest factor was probably the fact that in an age of kickers with big legs, Hot Rod was 1/4 from 50 and up in his career and from what Colts fans are saying, isn't a sure thing on anything past 40 yards..

Seems like it's definitely a logical decision.

Kickers can be fickle. If they are off they can cost you games.

Daniel Carlson had a brutal start for the Vikings after they drafted him. Got cut a few games into his rookie year then picked up by the raiders. Pro Bow kicker with them.

Blankenship was in year 3. So kind of time for him to show some consistency. Missing kicks was one thing but I heard he sent 2 kickoffs out of bounds to give houston a short field at their own 40.
