Two things:

1. I wonder if the rumored selection of Appleton cools Winnipeg's interest in Risto
2. My biggest UFA target is probably David Savard. I'd offer him a 3 year, 5M per deal with limited trade protection. We need a steady hand on the right side, especially with Power coming. He'd probably our top RHD immediately with his role reducing over time.

Has there been anything on Jake McCabe's status with the Sabres?

I know he's UFA -- of the long-tenured Sabres, he seemed like a solid option to bring back.

Well, now that the expansion draft is basically done we can FINALLY get some movement on the Sabres trading away the core of their team.

This danged process has dragged out for far too long.

I'm not interested in Owen Power, though I'm good with Beniers too. But, I like Eklund too much.

I get that, but our team needs a complete overhaul on character and attitude on this team.

I like Eklund a lot myself, but I don't think he has that "IT" factor that I would be looking for. I'd rather have more Cozens than Oloffsson's on the team if you know what I mean.

Fair enough, then I'd rather take Berniers. I just don't love Power as that "for sure" top guy in this class.

My "Post Expansion" Shot at this

To MN: Eichel
To Buffalo: Boldy, Addison, Rask, Kähkönen, 1st rounder (MN)

To LA: Reinhart, 2nd round pick (Buffalo's, 32nd OA)
To Buffalo: 8th OA + Vilradi

To Winnipeg: Risto
To Buffalo: 2nd round pick

To Ottawa: 3rd round pick (Montreal), 6th round pick (Colorado's)
To Buffalo: Tierney

Signings:

G F Anderson to a 1 year, 5M deal
D Savard 3 year, 15M deal
D Yandle to a 1 year, 4M deal
C Kuraly to a 2 year, 2M deal

Roster:

Skinner-Rask-Olofsson
Bjork-Tierney-Cozens
Asplund-Mittelstadt-Thompson
Girgensons-Kuraly-Okposo

Dahlin-Savard
Yandle-Joker
Bryson/Samuelsson-Miller

Anderson
Kahkonen

It's bad and cheapish, but pending UFA C's in Rask and Tierney allow us to bridge to Boldy, Cozens at C, and Vilradi

By the end of the season the full youth movement will be in a full swing.

Vilrardi, Boldy, and Addison will be in Rochester with Quinn and Peterka, Power back to MI, and whoever we get at 8th OA

Terrible return on the Hall trade (not even a condition attached to re-signing w/Boston), failing to sign or trade Ullmark before the trade deadline, botching the Eichel situation so far (medically, among other things), wasting away a valuable goalie protection slot for the expansion draft, failing to trade Risto prior to the expansion draft, losing Borgen in favor of a Risto trade return (It better be a 1st rd pick then).

None of the above are gonna move the needle significantly, but still pretty sad asset management by Kevin Adams recently...His tenure will be defined by the Eichel, Reinhart, and Risto trades (or lack thereof), but I can't say that anything he has done recently has inspired any confidence whatsoever that he'll get this right...Here's to hoping. I've been disappointed before.

Also, I keep reading (and have heard from within the org.) that the Sabres value a Ristolainen trade return greater than Borgen. But, I hope they realize that any trade return now (post-expansion vs. pre-expansion) must include Borgen on the other side of that assessment...I doubt they do, which is sad.

Lastly, dropping the Dahlin contract negotiations tidbit a few minutes before the Borgen pick leak was an amateur-hour move. Wouldn't expect anything less from a clown show of an organization.

All of these guys are NHL players.

They probably are. But I'm building out a roster that forces a few guys in the minors for development. And we have to hit the cap floor. Miller, Tierney, Rask, and Yandle are all pending UFAs, so I'm also trying to buy cheap now and get a return at the deadline to continue to fill the coffers. Injuries will force call ups, and by the trade deadline, the youth movement will be in full force.

Vilardi already had a full, productive year in the NHL. There is no developmental purpose in keeping him down.

Boldy didn’t have a full year but the same is true. 18 points in 14 games.

I suppose there could be an argument for Addison but I still don’t see the upside.

Keeping an NHL ready guy down can be just as damaging as rushing one.

Willingness to lose Borgen reminds me of walking away from Kahun. Making room for someone better?

I don't believe that those types of conditions are allowed anymore.

I like the Reinhart trade. Although I would try to tweak it so we get Vilardi and Anderson-Dolan (assuming McTavish goes before the #8 selection happens).

These are the worst off-season mocks I have ever seen.

God help us if any of this comes to fruition
