Wanted Svechkov badly. He's going to be a stud.

Some good talent left. Hopefully they pick isn't traded.

I Doubt they disavow the pick unless mailloux himself asks themselves to. Bullying a disabled kid and showing no remorse is quite a bit worse than being a twot and taking a unwanted pic and sharing instagram profiles imo.

Well what he did would be considered distributing child pornography if he did it in Canada, so not exactly just sharing Instagram profiles.

Can anybody explain to me what Ken Holland and the Oilers are doing? A team basically bereft of goaltending talent forcee to re-sign 39-year old Mike Smith.

So the best goaltender in the entire draft, Jesper Wallstedt, basically falls into into their laps and they trade back in the first round with Minnesota and lose him. Haven't checked the Oilers board, but they must be going ballistic.

Isnt he 17 himself? And the girl 18? So like he would be making CP of himself? Is that illegal?

Well, goaltenders aren't usually expected to be NHL regulars for 4+ more years, at which point McDavid will have left Edmonton and Holland will be fired, so there's minimal incentive to take him there.

Wallstedt was playing in the SHL though, so I think seeing him in 2-3 years in the NHL wouldn’t be shocking.

There is going to be pressure to forfeit the pick because IMO this is a worse situation than the Coyote pick last year.

At best it is stunningly tone-deaf.

At this point if it goes to an ELC the Habs are equally in the wrong here, if not more

Bergevin is teflon right now. Probably the only GM who could get away with making that pick.

Or hear me out. Gms could stop having this somewhat arbitrary view that a goalie no matter what will take 5 years to grow into the nhl and instead play them a bit earlier. Seriously its not even like he was some CHL scrub goalie either. Kid played in litterally the highest swedish league. I feel like he might have been worth a shot in his d+2 at the very latest. Maybe even try him in his d+1.

That is a baffling pick by Marc Bergevin. Especially given his proximity to the Blackhawks scandal. He is not insulated from the accusations about how that organization handled the sexual abuse.

The statement is a bit bizarre too. There’s an easy narrative to make that he doesn’t take situations involving sexual violence seriously.

As this story develops it is going to focus more and more on Bergevin. There is going to be external pressure on him to resign.

Montreal has the organization stability to absorb picks like this while Arizona doesn't. They will be able to take the heat and come out fine.

I don't really know the specifics past he leaked video of a woman performing a sexual act on him, but I feel from a moral standpoint Mitch Miller's situation is much worse. You can make an argument based on what the climate is though.

Which is weird because goaltending development is still voodoo. Further, it generally takes goalie prospects to about 23 years of age to advance to a back up role. Then they challenge for a starter's role. The timeline for forwards can be shorter by a few years.

I think people are superimposing EDM's current need onto their future team. Not really prudent to think that way.

Bergevin is in his last year if his deal, he knows he’s done in Montreal. He don’t care if he resigns, so no f***s given.
