Cam Robinson’s rankings so far are out.

[Robinson] 2021 NHL Draft Rankings (February 2021)

Some interesting takes are Lambos very low, which I disagree with immensely, and Scott Morrow at 15. I like Francesco Pinelli at 16, too. He’s got an opportunity to be a steal if the OHL doesn’t play, as a I think he has the skills to tear up the rankings.
Those were wild but it is a wild year.

not much to say on it, it’s tough this year.

There’s 3 boys I’d love to see in green and I’d get an autographed jersey right away.

So quick count but if the draft as today and if it went by the standings we’d be up at 19 and 21.

rankings are wild this year but....

Wallstedt, Lucius,Bolduc, L’Heureux, Francesco Pinelli, Bourgault, Ceulemans, McTavish, Chrinrikov...

I’m biased but my picks would be Bolduc and Wallstedt if possible.

Bolduc is very skilled, smart and reads the game well, not a small body and can score. He might end up being one of the better players from this draft.

wallstedt was ok at the WJC, but he looks to be ahead of Askarov at this point, can’t have too many goalies.

I haven’t seen the others except L’Heureux who I think is close to a sure thing, but he’s very much 1-4 range in terms of where he plays. Maybe eventually a Brad Marchand type, but not as good, very wide spread.

I think a higher skill player would fit the profile going on what Brackett has done before and if the reports are to be believed he is in charge of the draft. He clearly has a good network in Sweden re-Petterson and Hoglander so Wallstedt or even Olaufsson seems right.

I feel like lucius would be a decent pickup in this range. decent size, good shot, CENTER.

Looking quickly at Brackett’s draft picks:

The 2017 class has 5 guys playing pro, I didn’t check one of the profiles but I’d say those 5 are either playing for the Canucks now, or they will Atleast get some games.

2016 was his first and it sucked, but I’m not sure it’s his work.

2018 looks like it’s going to be very good, at the least they hit with Hughes, but Madden should also play and possibly Woo.

2019 is looking great for them too.

What Can We Learn From Judd Brackett's Previous Drafts? | Zone Coverage

for those who don’t end up reading it, Brackett prioritized skating and skills, all his picks skate and skate well, usually goes for 6.01 feet and up but if a smaller highly skilled player is there (Palmu, Hoglander,) he’s ours for the taking.

so updated picks:
Bolduc checks the skating, skills and size boxes, he’s a smart player, might remind Brackett of Petterson.

Pinelli, see above

L’Heureux not as skilled as the others but similar to Podkolzin, may look more like him at 19 than now.

I’d throw Bourgault, Ceulemans and McTavish in that mix too, only ruling out Wallstedt and Lucius

4 D and a G in the top 6? Oof.

3 C's in the top 14, one of whom might end up on the wing( Johnson), and another who has been a question mark( Raty)? Double oof.

I love Beniers, but I don't think I see #1oa material in him, or if he is, it's a Hischier/RNH type.

Hughes is really, really young. If he can skate like his brothers- I've heard mixed opinions on that- and has their smarts, he will be a player, even though we have a crying need for C's not D.

Is it just me or are goalies being inflated to the top of these boards in recent years?
No. I think 4 is high for Wallstedt, but we have an unprecedented run of goalies lately. No goalie has put up Askarov's draft year numbers in Russia in a long time, no Swedish goalie has been as dominant in the SHL as Wallstedt has been in his draft year in a long time. Most goalies don't play in the SHL or KHL/VHL as a draft eligible. Knight was so strong at all times for years for the US program and has proven since being drafted that he's a thoroughbred. We've known about these goalies coming for a while, and we're not likely to see a goalie of their caliber as a draft eligible for a couple of years.

I’d take a Hischier on this team in a millisecond.

As much as I’d like a C, I think any of the 4 Michigan guys (Johnson, Beniers, Power, Hughes) would be a great addition. I expect Hughes to separate himself from the pack and emerge as a clear favorite to go #1. We should definitely go BPA this year.

I disagree. I think if we get a decently high pick and the center we want isnt available, we trade it for a high end prospect that can play center.

We need young talent on the blueline and at C. We have good depth at both but no real young stars at D or C except Brodin and he’s not even that young. Hughes would definitely be a huge boost and allow us to move other pieces for a C

Rossi, JEE, Marat, Sturm, Khovanov (Boldy has playing C as well, so too early to lock him as a W)

Brodin, Menell, Addison, O’Rourke, Soucy

Our "need" at D is nowhere near the same level as it is at center. and if we were drafting like say 5th overall and beniers is gone, imo it would be much better used to get a player via trade thats young and fits that C spot.

Current needs, sure. But you don't draft for current needs. Suter is already declining, we may be losing Dumba, Spurgeon's not going to be getting any younger or better, and the best D prospect we have by far is Addison, a guy who projects to be a second pairing D, PP specialist type. If we could secure a young 1D, that would go a long way towards keeping us competitive once our D ages out. Rossi, Khovanov, Khusnutdinov is better than Addison, O'Rourke, Menell.
